The OP video wasn't really mainstream rap at all.

 

If that's mainstream.....then what isn't?

 

I'm a pretty mainstream guy and....usually the more mainstream bands try to be the more I like them. Obviously some seem to like it the other way around...but I like the new wave of rap songs which feature rock/rnb/pop artists to add something different....because they add great hooks to the song and make it memorable (sure it's not completely new but it seems to be happening quite a lot recently).

 

I haven't listened to nearly enough 80's/90's rap to judge but.....it's not my era at all so it's just not what I necessarily like. I usually struggle to get any interest from the songs...that's just the general feeling I get from the 90's and back (with some exceptions)......boring.
