Monday Chattanooga, Tennessee, utility company EPB announced that the nation's first commercial 1 Gbps Internet

access will be installed locally by the end of the year. Alcatel-Lucent also backed the announcement, revealing that Chattanooga's EPB will be one of three companies using its new gigabit passive optical network (GPON) technology.

So yeah I want to move to Chattanooga now... The price is a bit steep at 350 at month, but when I consider that the fastest internet I can get on a consumer plan here in Maine is 7megabits/sec through my cable company for a $140 bill I think its a bargain.

Welcome to 5-years-ago-in-Europe.

Many places in Europe have had 1 Gbit, even 10 Gbit in some residential areas for years now.

I am somewhat happy it's expensive, less skiddies buying it then.
