Welcome to 5-years-ago-in-Europe. Many places in Europe have had 1 Gbit, even 10 Gbit in some residential areas for years now. I am somewhat happy it's expensive, less skiddies buying it then. I don't know what the average customer would use all that speed for, except piracy. Link to comment

Speed won't have a major difference on latencies, if you already have at least 10Mbit (most ISPs already give that). Only thing that would improve latencies would be direct connections to the servers. Won't ever work, gotta hop through all the routers, which adds on mses of latencies each one. All skiddies getting Gbit will make latencies horrible - all of them will be DoSing everywhere, making the latencies a lot worse for everyone. Link to comment

You would most likely get a way better latency as it is not cable but fiber.. Hence, not an electrical current but light.. That's why you can reach amazing speeds compared to what we're used to.. "Fucking signal propagation, how does it work?". The latencies of copper vs fiber are so little (unless it's over a very long distance). I do agree that fiber is a lot better (it's cheaper to buy and maintain as well), but end-users who will mostly just use the speed for piracy and other illegal activities don't need that much. I cant agree with any of that. There is a reason that you can get 10 times the speed on the fiber cables compared to the dsl cables. Yes, at the moment, you wont feel the big increase in speed, as you might only have fiber from your house and to the cablebox around the corner, but thats no reason to not put it in the ground! If we only had fiber, we would feel a big increase.. Thats like saying that the second car model that was made wouldn't drive faster, even though it had some newer and better parts .. No, that is kind of true - it won't drive faster yet! A chain is not stronger than its weakest link .. But why shouldn't we keep upgrading the other links until the whole chain is upgraded? You make it sound as there is no reason to use fiber .. Yes there is - in the long run + you get better download and upload speeds.. I dont believe that people mostly will use it for piracy.. What kind of crap is that? Its like saying that if you make the cars go faster, the only thing they will be used to is breaking the speed-limit and robbing banks? Wut? I wouldn't be doing more illegal activities based on my internet speed? Are you? Because then I suggest you to downgrade your connection for your own safety! I like not having to wait for my youtube video to load.. I hate waiting - thats why I would be paying for a better and larger connection... Link to comment

I assume you meant copper ("cable")? The latencies of short lengths of copper ( I dont believe that people mostly will use it for piracy.. What kind of crap is that? Its like saying that if you make the cars go faster, the only thing they will be used to is breaking the speed-limit and robbing banks? Wut? Not everyone has a halo around their head like you do Giving even faster speeds to people who don't need it (99.99% of residential customers) will make the Internet overall SLOWER. The main routers where everything must pass through will get more bogged down. I agree that the lines everywhere should be upgraded, but the residential customers have no NEED for a faster connection. Most of the Internet traffic used right now is for P2P. Imagine then, if everyone has a lot faster speeds. What do you think is going to happen? People are going to abuse their connection more, for more and more piracy. The entire series of tubes will slow down, causing larger latencies for everyone, regardless if they are running fiber or copper. Link to comment
