Metal Posted October 7, 2010 Content Count: 11728 Joined: 09/17/08 Status: Offline Share Posted October 7, 2010 I was able to make two Alienware builds today. I know its alienware and i could do better, I'm not sure. But I been told by my friends its worth getting. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Alienware Auroa $1,896.00 Processors: Intel Core i3 540 Dual Core 3.06GHz 94MB Cache) OS: Windows 7 professional 64-bit, English Memory: 3GB DDR3 @ 1333MHz Hard Drive: 500GB- SATA-II, 3Gb/s, 7,200RPM, 16MB Cache HDD Video Cards: Single 1.5GB GDDR5 NVIDIA GeForce GTX 480 Optical Drive: 24X CD/DVD burner (DVD+/RW) w/double write 24DVDRW capability Keyboard: Alienware Multi-Media Keyboard Mouse: Alienware Mouse. Sound Card: Integrated 7.1 Channel Audio ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Alienware Aurora ALX $2,849.00 Processors" Intel Core i7 930 Quad Core Processor (2.8GHz, 8MB Cache) OS: Same as above Memory: 12GB DDR3 SDRAM @ 1333MHz- (3x 4096MB) Hard Drive: 1TB-SATA-II, 3Gb/s, 7,200RPM, 32MB, Cache HDD Video Card: Dual 1GB GDDR5 NVIDIA GeForce GTX 460 Optical Drives: Single drive: Blu-Ray, Reads and Writes DVD/CD ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ I just want to know if the 1st build will last 3-4 years. tinkerbell Posted October 7, 2010 Content Count: 1662 Joined: 05/16/07 Status: Offline Share Posted October 7, 2010 alienware was bought by dell. dell = shit. do the math back in the day alienware was good, but now if you shop around you can buy a pre-built pc with a stable overclock for $50~150 more than the components cost seperatly + your get warrenty, sorry but buying an i3 rig for that much is a waste of money, as for the i7 you can get a better deal. 1 Link to comment
KScorp Posted October 7, 2010 Content Count: 470 Joined: 04/04/10 Status: Offline Share Posted October 7, 2010 You pay a lot more just because it has the alienware brand attached. I looked at the first build, total shit for the price. 3GB ram, 500GB HDD, i3?! The 480 is the only thing it has going for it. Needless to say, the first one won't last for 4 years, just because it has 3GB ram. The second one will, but it's way more than you should be paying for it. Both of them cost way more than they should... Link to comment

Alienware is not the way to go anymore. you could buy separate parts and build a better computer for less money. Most of what you are paying for is the name brand. Link to comment

Also, dont post newegg links etc. I don't buy things like that online. But please. Go here http://configure.us.dell.com/dellstore/config.aspx?c=us&l=en&oc=dpdodz1&cs=19&kc=9&X=9&Y=6 Or this site http://www.ibuypower.com/ And make a rig. I know Dell "sucks", but i just need a computer that can handle high graphics. I dont care about overclock etc. Or if you can make a rig of a Canadian computer site that would be nice Link to comment

Thanks If you are thinking about spending that much for a piece of shit, don't even bother. I bought all my shit from ncix and built it myself. They have pre-built ones that are better than your alienware ones by a mile. http://pc.ncix.com/ncixpc/ncixpc.cfm?uuid=51934003-F110-46F2-A29F77F184852C7A-3039137 http://pc.ncix.com/ncixpc/ncixpc.cfm?uuid=FB33B1F3-094B-450E-92BA89286B4680F4-3039140 ^Sli- MSI GTS 450's. SchmoSalt Posted October 8, 2010 Content Count: 494 Joined: 08/23/09 Status: Offline Share Posted October 8, 2010 (edited) At first I thought those were laptops and I thought those were bad prices. As a PC though those prices are just insane. If I were you I would just build my own. You can get a computer that is miles better than any prebuilt if you build your own. If you know how to work a screwdriver you can build a computer. From what I can tell you want a computer around the pricetag of $2,000. Here is a reference build I put together in only 15 minutes. ASUS P6X58D - $290 Intel Core i7-930 - $285 EVGA GeForce GTX 480 - $470 2x Mushkin Enhanced Redline 6GB (3 x 2GB) DDR3/1600 - 2x $180 SAMSUNG Spinpoint F3 1TB - $75 LG 22X DVD Burner - $17 CORSAIR AX750 750W PSU - $170 COOLER MASTER Hyper 212 Plus CPU Cooler - $30 SILVERSTONE RAVEN RV02-BW - $160 Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium Upgrade - $110 Subtotal: $1,966.89 http://secure.newegg.com/WishList/PublicWishDetail.aspx?WishListNumber=14683952 Mind you this is just a quick reference build I put together, but it is pretty complete. You can also drive the price down even more by checking out other sites besides Newegg. PS: Another thing to consider is the fact that Intel and AMD will be releasing new chips next year. If you're patient enough and your current rig can last you until next year I would advise waiting until then. Edited October 8, 2010 by SchmoSalt Link to comment
