crossfire sly would be so useless in this case... not even funny...

I mean suggesting cards that arent on the market anymore is quite stupid as well...

but dont buy 2 cards...

That's nearly a 100% gain in performance, something SLI/Crossfire did far less efficiently in DX9/10 generation cards.

well yeah but what is it gonna do for her except take 300 buck out of her bank account.. the games she plays wont fully use one card... with her set up.

Its stupid to use dead technology

but its just as stupid to use new one excessively..

Which is why I said she had the option of buying one card now, and updating at a later date with a second if she wished. I merely selected one of the best cards to do it with.

if you are gona be spending that kind of money you might as well get one GTX 480 instead of two GTX 470s. Its cheaper to buy the one 480, it will require less power, use less space, be easier to OC, and open up the abbility to run two GTX 480s in about a year or so (if you find the one too weak for some reason) Of course no one needs anywhere near that power so it may be smarter to just get one GTX 470.

Yeah potshots build is what I told Ronen to build, since his budget is $1500 as well. I'd spend $150 on a Corsair HX750w since it's modular, that way you dont have 30 extra wires sitting in your case. Other than that, you could get a cheaper case depending on what you like/if you are overclocking or not.

Mmm, I actually like that case, if only it was pink or orange and not red..

About crossfire, obviously I don't need it running with such a low reso but if I do just use the 23" monitor that I have sitting collecting dust, it would make a bit more sense yes? & if I have the money to spend on it then Idk not seeing the negative still.

& the games I play, are the only games I REALLY can play. I can't run new games without my computer basically dying or just shitty gameplay even on the lowest of low settings. Hence I don't buy games or even bother with them knowing full well my computer can't run them. I would love to play newer games, but it simply isn't possible with my current PC.

I recently built a new computer (Started last december, and finished in July).

Basic run down:

Thermaltake M9(mid-tower case)

ASUS M4A78T-E AM3 AMD 790GX HDMI ATX AMD Motherboard

AMD Phenom II X4 965 Black Edition Deneb 3.4GHz quad core

1x CORSAIR DOMINATOR 4GB DDR3 RAM

Seventeam ST-850ZAF 850W ATX 12V V2.2 SLI Certified CrossFire Ready Power Supply

EVGA GTX 470 (fermi)

I like almost everything, but if I had to do something different I might have gotten a different case and make bumped up to 6GB RAM. Otherwise, everything looks good.

I didn't check if all of this is still available (I think the case might've been discontinued), but with just these parts you should be under 1k and can spend the extra on another stick of ram or maybe some water cooling (470's can run a bit hot)

EDIT: M9 was discontinued, but even with a different case, those parts should still be under 1k.

For those who still cant seem to get it. She is not here to save money per say, she wants top dollar for around the 1,500 area even if it is overkill or wahtever you want to say about it.

And yet top dollar will not always guarantee the best performance you fucktwits, even SLI can cause performance degradation in games that are poorly coded, along with high maintenance in SLI, top dollar does not mean best performance, the point of the fact is building your computer is meant to be a process that will save you money, if she wants the most costing computer out there I can direct you to the nearest bestbuy. Let's not be blunt, we're all shut-in nerds who think we have a college major in Computer IT. And I think we all need to relay both sides of what a purchase can do for you, and give an unbiased opinion on it. 0-I mean, I hope none of us are recommending hardware because we get a paycheck from the manufacturer for it, right?

As for jen, when building a computer you need to be willing to learn aswell, if you want SLI/CrossFire, you need to be willing to learn about how maintenance works, if you want water-cooling, you need to be able to maintain it. I'm not questioning your tech skills, but you haven't given a lot of thought (from what I've seen) on what you're about to spend your buck on.

but i digress, in short: sli may look the best, but these people who test these don't run them long term, they benchmark, shelve them, and don't worry about it until the next go around. you're a consumer and it matters how hardware performs under long-term conditions.

Seriously, this still proves today, you'll notice the AMD Phenom II X6 may look nice and high end with it's big price tag, but it performs shittly in benchmarks. But yeah, don't buy hardware just cause it costs a lot and looks good on the outside!
