Desum Posted November 3, 2010 Content Count: 1078 Joined: 07/20/08 Status: Offline Share Posted November 3, 2010 (edited) I'm looking to build a decent gaming comp better than my current one for as cheap as I can go and I'm a bit of a newfag when it comes to this. Looking at a 400-ish price range. I don't need a monitor, keyboard, mouse, or speakers/headphones. I also have 2 2GB DDR2 ram chips that I could easily transfer if possible. Also found a deal for 199$ and wanted to know if it was worth it Gives: -ECS A740GM-M Motherboard -AMD Phenom X4 9750 Quad Core Processor -2048MB PC6400 DDR2 Memory -LG GH22NS50B DVD Writer -Western Digital 500GB Caviar Blue Hard Drive -Power Up Black ATX Case w/ 450w PSU Any help at all is appreciated, thanks ;D EDIT* Current Specs are Windows 7 Ultimate AMD Athlon 2650e Processor NVIDIA Geforce 8200 Graphics DVD+RW Super Multi-Format Dual Layer Optical Drive 320 GB Hard Drive 4gb DDR2 Memory got the current comp for 200$ on a sale. After 2 years I know why it was only 200 ;O Edited November 3, 2010 by Desum Link to comment

But you should be able to steal the RAM from your old box if you get the new one, as long as they are the same type and speed. Link to comment

Dirk Posted November 4, 2010 Content Count: 2167 Joined: 07/14/10 Status: Offline Share Posted November 4, 2010 hmm 400 all you really can do for that is get a new GPU and some cooling for over clocking. Perhaps you could get faster ram. The only other thing you could do is to buy a new MOBO and CPU then put the old gpu in and ram but that does not seem too usefull as the GPU is whats holding you back the most now. Link to comment

They match up alright with i3/i5's but that's about it, the Phenom 2 X6 perform poorly as of right now, the i7 is a good choice if you can spread the cash. Personally, I'd wait until AMD unveils their new cpu, and since you're waiting on that, wait on the GPU as well, seeing how some new gpus on both sides are coming out soon, and prices on the older ones will be lower. It's up to you if you want to wait a few months and sees how it plays out. Link to comment
