I've got the 6870 and as an example I was playing Bad Company 2 campaign and max settings on most things and up to 8x anti aliasing was running at 60 fps+ even with explosions n shit. Seems good, I wondered if they have stopped the overheating issues... I'm waiting for the new HD 6900 cards 6870 looks good though! http://www.scan.co.uk/products/1gb-xfx-hd-6870-black-4600mhz-gddr5-gpu-920mhz-1120-stream-processors-2x-dvi-hdmi-2x-mini-dp I got the Sapphire 6870 for £175 All these higher quality cards are just ridiculously priced..... The worst purchase you can make as a PC Builder is to buy hardware that makes new use of a certain feature. Like DX11. Buying first generation DX11 cards is useless because they can't even run DX11. But either way, GTX 470 is 5.79 dollars per fps, the GTX 580 is 9 dollars per fps. Heh. Link to comment

Anti-aliasing is simply the doubling/quadrupling/etc of the resolution you use, and then having it scaled back into your resolution, to make colors more vibrant, etc. Anti-aliasing is especially useful because most textures are almost the size of 800x600 pixels for a simple helmet or hat, so you can see a better picture. tl;dr: antialiasing is like setting your resolution at 1440x900 on a 800x600 screen, just so the edges dont look jagged. it looks better, but is it worth it? no probably not, i usually stick to 2x aa on games like BC2, and pump out 8x on source games. and hence why the graph did not show AA, on a 2560x1600 monitor doubling that would probably cause massive tensions on the card. The 6870 and 470 results vary by 2-3 fps, how is this significant? Also, different CPU/RAM will result in different performance. Link to comment

Dirk Posted November 15, 2010 Content Count: 2167 Joined: 07/14/10 Status: Offline Share Posted November 15, 2010 the crazy thing is that i can run 16x AA in cod4 and it runs well over 80fps with all settings maxed and at 1280x1024 but then cod:bo came out and well i have to run at only 4x AA. i guess thats one reason why sli is not as good as one uber card. you dont get any more ram so you dont gain any advantage for high res. or AA for that matter. thats where having one insane card with a terabyte of vram helps.
