Powered USB hub question

This thread will only be up until I find out an answer so maybe not very long (Unless it is answered in this thread in which case I'll just leave it up incase anyone else has a similar question)..

 

Can a powered USB hub be a bus powered hub if I don't plug it into the wall? Or does it NEED to be plugged into the wall in order to function at all?

It depends. I've had hubs with 4x USB that only 2 ports will work with bus power. Depends on how much juice it needs imo

Yeah bus powered hubs supply 500mA total. External powered hubs do 500 to each one. So it depends what you're powering.

 

I was just wondering if it *could* draw power from the laptop instead of the wall if not plugged in.
