Can a powered USB hub be a bus powered hub if I don't plug it into the wall? Or does it NEED to be plugged into the wall in order to function at all? Thanks. Daze Posted December 9, 2010 Content Count: 6741 Joined: 06/10/08 Status: Offline Share Posted December 9, 2010 It depends. I've had hubs with 4x USB that only 2 ports will work with bus power. Depends on how much juice it needs imo Link to comment https://forums.steam-gamers.net/topic/37924-powered-usb-hub-question/#findComment-489526

External powered hubs do 500 to each one. So it depends what you're powering. I was just wondering if it *could* draw power from the laptop instead of the wall if not plugged in.
