Zero001 Posted May 2, 2008 Content Count: 1230 Joined: 05/17/07 Status: Offline Share Posted May 2, 2008 Ok.. so I'm in the market to replace my abused system (currently has 5 distended capacitors: but somehow keeps running) I already have a dual layer DVD burner and 500 GB sata hd as well as a friend hooked me up with some free DDR 2 RAM.. OCZ Gold 4GB(2 x 2GB) DDR2 800 (PC2 6400) Dual Channel Kit If I have about $700 - $900 to spend and want to get the most bang for the buck.. What would you recommend for the following. Case- Power Supply- Motherboard- Proc- Video Card- Sound Card- Your input is appreciated. Considering you already have some important and expensive pieces to a build $700-$900 will go a long way. What are you looking for in your build? What do you normally use your PC for? Link to comment

Phobos Posted May 2, 2008 Content Count: 234 Joined: 04/07/08 Status: Offline Share Posted May 2, 2008 Ok i am wanting to build a new PC. There are a few gaming coming out that I want to play, and i can't do that on my laptop. Would love feedback. I also need to keep the price down. CPU link: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819115029 $189.99 Motherboard link:http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813131196 $149.99 Video Card link: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814130082 $144 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814150252 $179 Memory: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820134218 $64 Case:http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811129024 $119 HD:http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822136161 $64 I'd get a 9600GT if I were you. The 320mb one is slower by a little bit, and hogs a lot more space. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814130334 eVGA might also offer a 3-month stepup program, which means you can exchange that product with a newer one in that price range like they did with my 8800gts 512mb g92 Link to comment
Zero001 Posted May 3, 2008 Content Count: 1230 Joined: 05/17/07 Status: Offline Share Posted May 3, 2008 (edited) There's a lot wrong with IanH's build. The CPU is slightly outdated, the Wolfdale or a Quad for an extra $20 would be a much better investment. He already mentioned he has RAM and a HDD. I wouldn't power my rig with what comes with the case. He has $700-$900 to spend might as well go all out on a higher end video cards. CPU Case Video Card Motherboard Power Supply I'll post my reasons later on. Edited May 3, 2008 by Zero001 Link to comment

This is my setup: http://secure.newegg.com/NewVersion/WishList/PublicWishDetail.asp?Source=MSWD&WishListNumber=7408851 (already had the gfx card/hdd so it turned out to be under $700) There's nothing wrong with DFIs and my wolfdale core. My DFI was just DOA. :\ Edited May 3, 2008 by Phobos Link to comment

The price difference is minimal, and with the kind of money he wants to spend not a big deal. An E8400 or a Q6600 will make a great chip for his PC. The reason I don't want to suggest dumping extra money on a motherboard is because, there is going to be a socket change at the end of the year. Any motherboard available right now will be obsolete. The one I suggested is more than enough to run any CPU out currently out on the market, and it's a good overclocker. Case is personal preference so he can pick what he wants, and my video card suggestion is enough to run Crysis on high. If he wants to spend $100 more a 9800GTX would be 1337. I didn't suggest a sound card because the AC-1 is currently overpriced, it's been as low as $60 and Creative is currently being boycotted by the mod community. Link to comment

NIKO Posted May 3, 2008 Content Count: 1386 Joined: 03/02/07 Status: Offline Share Posted May 3, 2008 I just realized that Red, suri and I are going to have the same mobo ram, and HD, only difference is CPU and case. Its just kinda funny to me, but atleast we all know we will have reliable rigs Link to comment

I never said to get anything over an e8400/q6600, I think those are the best for your money. Link to comment

I was the one stating they were better deals. Link to comment
