The budget is rather low at $350 - $400. We already have an old Caviar Black 1TB that we're gonna reuse. This is primarily gonna be used for surfing and general entertainment, no gaming, so no GPU needed, I just want it fast.

This is what I've thrown together:

CD/DVD Drive: Newegg.com - ASUS Black 24X DVD+R 8X DVD+RW 12X DVD+R DL 24X DVD-R 6X DVD-RW 12X DVD-RAM 16X DVD-ROM 48X CD-R 32X CD-RW 48X CD-ROM 2MB Cache SATA 24X DVD Burner - Bulk - CD / DVD Burners

Case: Newegg.com - Rosewill R101-P-BK 120mm Fan MicroATX Mid Tower Computer Case

Motherboard: Newegg.com - GIGABYTE GA-M68MT-S2P AM3 NVIDIA GeForce 7025/nForce 630a chipset Micro ATX AMD Motherboard

RAM: Newegg.com - G.SKILL Ripjaws Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1333 (PC3 10666) Desktop Memory Model F3-10666CL9D-8GBRL

CPU: Newegg.com - AMD Phenom II X4 955 Black Edition Deneb 3.2GHz 4 x 512KB L2 Cache 6MB L3 Cache Socket AM3 125W Quad-Core Processor HDZ955FBGMBOX

With the PSU I wanna go Antec Earthwatts, but I'm not sure whether 380W will suffice or if I need to get 430W? What do you guys think? I'm not going to upgrade it with a GPU anytime soon, if at all, since I already have a gaming computer, this is going to be the family computer.

8gb and a 955 for a non-gaming rig? And why the fuck does everyone want nforce boards (they allow you to SLI nvidia cards, but you wont be doing that anyways).

Go for like 4gb's 1333mhz, and a cheaper processor, like the Athlon X3 or even Phenom II X4 920/940. You can save a lot.

I could care less about the motherboard as long as it does its job and won't break on me in 2 years.

And I want to future-proof the hell out of the computer, and let it last at least like 3 - 4 years.

To be honest, 8GB DDR3 Ram, Phenom Quad Core, 1TB Caviar Black, already sounding like a nice computer build! DVD RW is fine, for that price it's a pretty nice build!

Also, 380W for that build is fine.

If anything, I would scrap the AMD Motherboard and get a duel core Pentium, there good and reliable CPU's. Use this motherboard

Also take this ram instead;
