Building a gaming rig...

Like many posts, I am also wanting to get some input on whether or not this is a good build for a Gaming PC. I have been using the same desktop PC for a very long time (P4 2gb ram lol) and aside from a decent laptop, I haven't upgraded in a long time.

Anywho, here is what I have in my shopping cart ready to roll:

CPU:

Newegg.com - AMD Phenom II X4 965 Black Edition Deneb 3.4GHz 4 x 512KB L2 Cache 6MB L3 Cache Socket AM3 125W Quad-Core Processor HDZ965FBGMBOX

Mobo:

Newegg.com - GIGABYTE GA-880GM-D2H AM3 AMD 880G HDMI Micro ATX AMD Motherboard

RAM:

Newegg.com - G.SKILL Ripjaws Series 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1333 (PC3 10666) Desktop Memory Model F3-10666CL8D-4GBRM

GFX Card:

Newegg.com - HIS H467QR1GH Radeon HD 4670 1GB 128-bit DDR3 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready CrossFireX Support Video Card

I'm not looking for extreme overclocking type of gaming PC, just an upgrade. I have a 430w Power Supply (Hopefully enough), and I am just gonna keep my current HDD with WinXP right now. I plan on getting more RAM and Win7 down the line. Sound like a decent setup? Will 430w handle all that? And will an older HDD with WinXP run just like normal when replacing the Mobo/CPU?

Any tips, comments, or even recommendations are all welcome. I know a lot about PCs, but have never actually bought all the separate components and pieced them together brand new. Always tore apart old PCs and mixed and matched.

Thanks in advance!

EDIT: Also, I am trying not to go over $400 either. So far the above items add up to $354 which is good for me :)

You can take the thermal compound off the list. The cpu comes with it already on. You may want to look at getting a better graphics card but you don't have to if you don't want to. Other than that, everything looks good. But that's my opinion.

I agree, a better graphics card could go well in the situation, if you have the money.

Why are you getting a board with a integrated GPU....I suggest you give us a budget and let us build you a system...Also let us know if you need a case keyboard etc ...

Already have a custom case, power supply, HDDs, and DVD burners etc... Looking to spend $300-$400. Only need new Mobo/CPU/RAM/GPU.

Is it cheaper/better to get a mobo with different types of integrated graphics? Assumed most come with nice integrated graphics now lol.

He said $400. I'm assuming that he already has a case, keyboard, etc. from his current comp.

Going to take a look. What kind of PSU wattage and model?

you should get a cpu cooler. few good ones for under 40$.

his budget is shit wtf? AMD original cooler is gonna do fine and no need for Thermal compound

Get a better GPU you are gonna regret it. Also depending on the type of OS. OEM version usually is tied to the mobo hence why its half the price. So that might end up being a problem.

My budgets fuckin fine. I have many more important things in life to devote money too rather than my CPU. I just wanted to give myself a minor upgrade, and I think $400 is plenty to do that. I understand the GPU I picked my be lacking, so I may bump budget slightly to get a 256-bit card.

And maybe give a reason why I need a better PSU? The 450watt I have right now is only a few months old, and with the setup I listed most people are saying 450 is fine. But if you have some more detail rather than "GET A BETTER PSU", I would like to hear it.

Thanks for everyone's input, I took the Thermal Compound off the list, and I am looking at a diff GPU.
