The thermal compund is at least 5yearolds so I am gonna redo it. I already cleaned the cpu/heatsink with rubbing alcohol.. but I have heard it is hard to spread new thermal compound easily.... what is the best way to spread it evenly? Any tips? THANKS!! Edit: The compound is Antec silver compound (formula 5) Sorry if there is spelling mistakes. did this omg droid Link to comment

Like Daze said, use a plastic card / ruler and use clean strokes (you want a very thin, and smooth layer of paste) to spread it. Link to comment

ArticSilver themselves also reccomend that method. I applied the ArticSilver5 paste that way and it works great. Link to comment

He is only doing it wrong because he is smearing it with the heatsink.... which will make it more uneven. A pea size is proper; smearing it with your heatsink is not. 2 Link to comment
