Before you make the decision though, I highly suggest building considering you get more bang for your buck and it's not difficult to do. A monkey can put the hardware together. Link to comment

Elleon Posted May 10, 2011 Content Count: 1120 Joined: 02/04/09 Status: Offline Share Posted May 10, 2011 Doesn't look too bad Harpreet, but does Penguin want a monitor as well? 3.4GHz, 8GB ram, 1TB HDD, Windows 7 64-bit? A lot of that just isn't necessary in my opinion, but while we are in this particular area, I am interested in knowing what Penguin plans to use this computer for. Since you don't know much about computers, I assume you aren't doing anything that would actually utilize a high-end performance machine. The build Harpreet has is nice, but you can cut the costs significantly picking a machine to match your preferences. Don't get me wrong though, I am not trying to simply save you a buck, but it's really just a waste of money if you aren't even going to use half of the thing's potential. My suggestion would be to go cheaper, something to fit your wants at the moment, but also upgradable. In a year or two, you simply upgrade a piece to meet the requirements. For instance, I paid 3000$ for my machine 2+ years ago and it's probably half of what Harpreet's example is. I still plan to keep it for 2-4 more years atleast and have yet to upgrade a single piece. I splurged and ended up kicking myself when I saw that a year later that the same exact build cost half, 1.5 years ago it cost 1/3. Link to comment

Also it seems as if the HDD is most likely only going to be 5400 RPM, its nice how they refuse to tell you exactly what you're getting. You're MUCH better off building your own pc, that way you can make certain adjustments that big companies simply wont do. The biggest one is probably the heatsink, its worth the extra $ to get a decent heat sink and some good thermal paste; most of the time when you purchase pre-builts they're going to use the stock heatsink with the crappy thermal patch on it which will result in much higher CPU temperatures.
