Sniper Posted July 10, 2011 Content Count: 657 Joined: 07/21/10 Status: Offline Share Posted July 10, 2011 EDIT: Found new case. EDIT 2: Chose a different HDD. It's only 500 GB, but I really don't need 2 TB. EDIT 3: Dropped the RAM to 4 GB Hey all, I'm planning on building a brand new rig to take back to college with me and I'm going all out (within reasonable limits). My price cap is $1,500 So far, I've got: Case: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811119227 Mobo: Newegg.com - MSI P67A-GD80 (B3) LGA 1155 Intel P67 SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX Intel Motherboard CPU: Newegg.com - Intel Core i7-2600K Sandy Bridge 3.4GHz (3.8GHz Turbo Boost) 4 x 256KB L2 Cache 8MB L3 Cache LGA 1155 95W Quad-Core Desktop Processor BX80623I72600K By reading the reviews the stock cooler is absolute crap for overclocking so I may buy an aftermarket cooler in the future. RAM: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820233173 GPU: Newegg.com - VisionTek 900352 Radeon HD 6950 2GB 256-bit GDDR5 PCI Express 2.1 x16 HDCP Ready CrossFireX Support Video Card with Eyefinity Apparently you can flash the 6950 to 6970 bios. I'm planning on doing this to save some money. HDD: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822136795 Later on, I'll buy a SSD. For now though, a HDD will be fine. PSU: Newegg.com - CORSAIR Professional Series HX750 (CMPSU-750HX) 750W ATX12V 2.3 / EPS12V 2.91 SLI Ready CrossFire Ready 80 PLUS SILVER Certified Modular Active PFC Power Supply Total Price (including shipping and rebates): $1,147.78 If you can think of any better substitutes to what I've listed above, feel free to comment. I'll post pics when I finish it. Link to comment

Why not just buy a $60 coolermaster and call it good. New products on the market don't heat up as much as they use to. Mobo is a bit costy but w/e. Ram is a little high as well, you really need 8GB? I own a phantom its too big... as for the price tag...I'd say it's under priced...Regardless if you can find it for cheaper... Problem is you don't need a full tower nor do you want one... Unless you were going for water cooling...Then I wouldn't recommend the phantom for Watercooling...Phantom is good for big/multiple/ gpu's or big Mobo IE for Graphic or game Design video card setups with an XL mobo for two CPU's... Mostly because I go to LAN parties every now and then so I'll need a case that is easy to carry around and be able to fit the graphics card. EDIT: Found new case. See op. Link to comment
