We ran a story along these lines, but the kids are using foul language...they got one that sounded about 9ish dropping the "f" bomb. Story sucked but its something to check out.

I looked at this and thought, wow big deal?

It doesn't matter if you play games or not, children eventually pick swearwords up from somewhere. It could be school, the internet, friends, tv or anything really.

Internet swearing isn't even real, it is just an empty insult used with completely the wrong meaning. That site even says that children just reply "Your gay man stop it". Why would anyone take offence to that? Even a gay person would know that it isn't meant in that way, its just used to try and insult you because they don't actually know you and it is the only way to try and look strong, sad really, especially the "ur m0m" ones.

On the other hand I am mature, I know my video games from my real life experiences, I don't see me doing headshots and kniving people to death in GTA and then think that'd be cool to do in real life, but maybe some people do, I just don't see how you could be so retarded. Although that is the birth of advertisements, people see products being used by celebrities and think "wow lets get that".

Oh yes and this made me laugh. (its at the bottom of the report)

"Some churches and other groups have formed “clans” where players within the clan compete with one another and agree not to use foul language. If any is heard, you’re out. "

Come on seriously this is pathetic. Parents really don't seem to understand children at all. This is like how foreign parents say school nativities are offensive to their children, rubbish.

Anyway age doesn't matter it is more about maturity.

So long as it isn't mic spamming, or the kid under 15 who thinks that he's standing around with a bunch of friends and thinks he needs to be constantly talking to keep everyone entertained. (to those of you who think you always NEED to talk over your microphone while people are playing games, you don't.)

This.

My big thing about this is that if my daughter starts cursing at 9 years old, I've failed as a parent to prevent this to happen. Right now she's barely a year old so I got some time. Parents overall need to be active in their kids lives, do what they like to do. If that means playing CS or GTA online they should be involved. When kids have structure and parental involvement in their lives they tend to be better off in the real world.

The empty insults used on the internet can be misunderstood by them and then tried to be used at school or other places that would take offence to them and be acted upon. Kids tend to imitate every thing, hell I still imitate alot of comedic things I see on tv, and using the internet insults on someone that isn't internet savy could be a bad thing.

In my honest opinion, alot of the insults used today on the internet shouldn't even get the chance to be heard. It isn't productive and in my mind doesn't agree with the standards that our community is built on.

If I ever got children I wouldn't be so concerned about the swearing, but more about playing computer games so much. I had a Super Nintendo when I was 3 years old and whilst I'm never addicted to it recently I've been to lazy to do anything else.

Also what you may see as helping your children could be hurting them. By stopping them swearing and over protecting them you don't prepare them for the "real world". I've been given freedom and I like my parents for that they don't need to put restrictions on me because I know what it is right and wrong.

Also when a kid comes to school and he says at the age of 14 "um mum mum mum ma, you said the F word I'm tellin" they are going to get beaten the hell out of, or atleast bullied in schools I've been to. You need to keep the balance between academic, social, freedom and fun. If you do well in school, have friends, given freedom but guidance and you have fun too, what more could you ask for?

If you have that sort of community good but the standards of community I know really aren't that high, a wimp wouldn't last a minute.

I agree. Balance is the key and is a neverending battle. Hopefully I will succeed in this arena when the time comes. Exposing them to real world things must be done at a time where he/she is mature enough to handle it and then somethings the world forces them to learn when they might not be ready. I think its how the world works itself out. Nice conversation Lux!
