Lux Posted September 14, 2011 Content Count: 6712 Joined: 03/06/08 Status: Offline Share Posted September 14, 2011 Firstly...I'm on my itouch so excuse the wall of text. Another chapter in the massive story of my terrible PC..... I reformatted only 2 weeks ago and hell has broken loose already. I continue to get blue screens and system fuck ups upon restarting after updates...sometimes it fixes itself but this time I have no idea. My Ethernet adapter stopped working (my Ethernet port Does not work for somereason... And it did not work on my old PC either so no idea WTF is wrong there), so I have no Internet on the PC. Reinstalling the drivers has no effect, it says they are corrupt. However, it's obviously something worse as several things do not work. Task manager, system restore, system file check... Even age of empires online. The error message is, "The application has failed to start because it's side-by-side configuration is incorrect. Please see the application event log or use the command-line sxstrace.exe tool for more detail". End of the day... I can solve this by reformatting but I've already done that and problems continue to persist. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated...... Link to comment

Silva Posted September 14, 2011 Content Count: 250 Joined: 04/01/11 Status: Offline Share Posted September 14, 2011 Try the System File Checker SFC.exe, Go to your cmd prompt run as admin and type in sfc /scannow it will scan certain files and replace them with the correct versions. I also read that re seating your ram might temporarily help with BSOD's. Another possible help is to go to your Computer>Properties> Error checking "check now" you can auto fix it by selecting that or wait till after to see if any problems exsist(wont be fixed). For a better check do scan for and attempt recovery of bad sectors, longer but checks for errors on the drive itself/tries to fix. You might need a new C++ so go to http://www.microsoft.com/download/en/details.aspx?id=5555 Link to comment

I'll try the error check thing when I can but right now the PC keeps restarting when it gets to the windows load screen..even on safe mode. I thought it might be the RAM...I ran a memory test CD from boot but it didn't pick up anything wrong. I have no idea about the motherboard...possible but we built the pc twice over and couldn't see any problems.. Link to comment

If possible, take a picture with your phone then upload here. Also, you say you've reformatted but the errors are still appearing, maybe an hardware issue? Before we go into the hardware I need you to answer a couple of questions; Win7 - torrented? If so, did you use the same installation as before? If yes, could be an issue with the OS. After the reformat, did you backup any important documents? E.G. do you have any sort of files still on your comp from before reformat. If you answer "No" to both, download this hardware diagnostic tool; PC-Doctor, Inc. - Computer Hardware Diagnostic Software Post the results and we'll try and help you through them. Link to comment

There's A problem, who knows what garbage MS Security isn't blocking. Anyways, when was the last time your PC was working fine before you noticed things happening? You can try opening event viewer (right click on My Computer and click manage, then select event viewer) to see if anything useful pops up there. But most likely a fresh install of windows is needed. MS Security Essentials is actually quite good, could even say shit hot. . Also, he's already reinstalled windows but the same errors keep reappearing.
