Just get a newer one unless you really don't have enough money; they have more HDD space, take up less room, and tend to run cooler than the older models. Also, I imagine that the older model in question is used and personally I wouldn't buy a used PS3/360 due to lack of warranty/higher chance of hardware failure.

Well, my father uses a PS3, as does my Uncle, both have the slimmer models. There is more bang for the buck, so to speak.

Elf, you hit another right on the head. While more expensive, the slimmer versions do run at a cooler temperature, and do have a better HDD. My father accidentally leaves it on for a day or two, and it still runs fine, so hardware isn't too much of an issue.

Anyway, hope that helped.

main difference to look at is the older ps3 has playback capability for ps2 games. and the new one doesn't. if you want to save money go with the old one.

If the old one is the fat one, then it can't play PS2 games, at least not the one I had.. Dunno if I had a weird version though, but we tried a lot of times.

Fat PS3's are backwards compatible with PS2 games, just not the 40GB version. It honestly doesn't matter which one you chose, they both do the same thing. I have a fat PS3 and I love it.

Newer slim version doesnt...

And yes one of the fat one doesnt. I got mine for a good price. USED and it runs strong and plays old game. Really the main thing I like about the new one is that it runs cooler. and also less of a finger print magnet
