The concrete edge at Las Vegas seems to of been a big contributor to the severity of this crash, you just see some of the cars hit it and burst into flames Link to comment

Lux Posted October 18, 2011 Content Count: 6712 Joined: 03/06/08 Status: Offline Share Posted October 18, 2011 Safety is something most motor sports take very seriously, even more so when someone dies like this. Since they go back and look at how they can prevent something like this from happening again safety wise. Thus why NASCAR has neck protectors after Dale Senior was killed. F1 is a lot harder to do stuff with safety wise since the cock pit of the car is so small, these kinds of things happen and the drivers who have been doing this most of their lives know that everytime they get in a race car. So banning it really isn't the answer when they take measures to make it safer for the drivers when they can. All sports have their dangerous sides, when something like this happens it just reminds people that it can happen which makes them look into preventing it happening again. I don't think you can really compare Indycar to F1. There's no oval speedtracks in the F1 schedule, it's not nearly as dangerous because if you manage to crash, there are always lots of safety barriers and it'd be bad if you hit one car.....not another 15 like in Indycar. At least football makes you fit, there can be spectacular plays, it can allow people to get scholarships and get an education. I've never heard about a racing scholarship for universities. Dan Wheldon was defintely one of the best in the business, sad to see him go at such a young age. But at least he died doing what he loved. RIP. Link to comment
