Then we create the material needed duh! :001_tongue: As for fail-safe measures....Ima sure we can make something...I mean people probably thought the same thing when we built skyscrapers eh? You just gotta build it good so it won't fall. Just gotta think of all the things that would make the structure unstable and fix them. Link to comment

They have one on the probe heading to pluto and its 'flying' in terms of predessors like Huygens-Cassini and Voyagers. From Earth it will reach Pluto in 13 years. I think for Voyager 1 it took nearly 20. Ion propulsion is awesome but it takes a huge amount of fuel to send a payload needed for a manned mission, it would almost need a nuclear reactor to make it feesable now. Ion thrusters are old news, they've been used in satellites since the 70s. They're slow but efficient, not really what's needed for a manned mission to a far away planet. You can't use them on earth either, because they require an environment free of other ions to work. I would like to live on mars. Link to comment

Articles like this shows that it can happen. http://space.newscientist.com/article/dn10573-space-mirrors-could-create-earthlike-haven-on-mars.html Though old but infomational, but gives us hope if earths resources are all wasted or low on. The technology doesn't matter, terraforming won't ever get to be as quick as to have the person who pushed the button to be alive when it finishes. Probably not even his children. P.S. Technology advances better in war. The Iraq and Afghanistan situation is not. Too many countries have been dragged too far into the situation for anything good to come out of it. It's a metephorical plughole. Noooo! lol There has been technology created because of the conflict and the "war on terrorism"....I don't if good will come out though.... Link to comment

A few minutes ago around 9:55 PM EST the first images came in. The pictures showed a healthy craft and on a pretty level ground. The pictures of the surface looks different that pictures from the other rovers because this lander is on the northern pole of the planet. Very few rocks of decent size are seen. Right now just black and white photos but I do believe colors are coming. So all is well with this lander and hopefully scientist will learn much and possibly find a few water molecules in the ground. Congrats to NASA, JPL, and Arizona University! From what I've read they show cracking similar to permafrost areas in our own arctic region. Go on, then, give some examples of technology that has specifically been designed because of the current conflicts that are or will benefit civilisation. There's a couple neat new advances in medical technology that are still in the works, like replacing someone's blood with cold saline to preserve them until they can get medical attention where they would normally just die on the battlefield; they did kept a dog on ice for like six hours and successfully revived it after. *E* found the article, haven't heard anything about it since though Cryogenically freeze yourself. Someone will wake you up if the container has lasted long enough. Mars is uninhabitable, so the only real solution to be able to live on there is to terraform it, and that would take thousands of years. I don't want to live on a terraformed planet, it would kind of defeat the purpose. I'll take the biodome as long as Pauly Shore isn't allowed in. Edited May 26, 2008 by Captain Colon Link to comment
