TheMxPenguin Posted January 21, 2013 Content Count: 228 Joined: 08/25/10 Status: Offline Share Posted January 21, 2013 so i've been looking for a new heatsink/fan because of serious and sudden overheating issues. should i go with a traditional one like this Newegg.com - COOLER MASTER Hyper 212 Plus RR-B10-212P-G1 "Heatpipe Direct Contact" Long Life Sleeve 120mm CPU Cooler Compatible with Intel 1366/1155/775 and AMD FM1/FM2/AM3+ a higher end one like this Newegg.com - Noctua NH-D14 120mm & 140mm SSO CPU Cooler or a fancy liquid one like this Newegg.com - CORSAIR Hydro Series H100i Water Cooler note that i have a AMD Phenom ii X4 b45 cpu and my computer used to be able to run most games and stuff on full settings but one day the plug got pulled on my computer and now overheats all the time even though all the fans are still spinning and i have a external fan spinning with the case doors open and my ceiling fan going and windows open and still over heat. MSI afterburner says my GPU (ATI 4850 is running at 40-60 degrees) so its not my gpu so i think its my cpu. also am i better off just building a whole new rig as this one is from 2008 and is falling apart Link to comment

Sounds like your CPU is overheating check to see if the cooler on te CPU is attached correctly and add some new thermal paste on the CPU make sure you clean the old paste and add a dab on the CPU. Re insert fan and installed correctly and do a stress test. Watch the CPU temp. Try this first. I had this happen to me before. Il add links if you need it. Link to comment

Chaoz` Posted January 23, 2013 Content Count: 1740 Joined: 04/04/10 Status: Offline Share Posted January 23, 2013 all the fans are still spinning and i have a external fan spinning with the case doors open this is also part of your problem, do not, i repeat, DO NOT leave your case open, it ruins the airflow and fuck with your PC. and will collect dust a lot faster. and ye just replace the thermal compound, with some Silver5 and you're good to go. (doesn't need a lot, like half a grain of rice, is even too much) But seeing as you're looking for a new CPU cooler, don't buy an H100i, not worth it, an H60 or H70 or H80 is good aswell, especially for a Phenom II.
