So I have a laptop with Intel HD 4000 and Nvidia GeForce 650m but I want to upgrade and also want to know if its possible on a laptop. I want to know better graphics cards that are better then 650m. I was looking at GTX 670 but I don't know if it's good for modern games. But I would like to know whats better 650m or GTX 650. Finally is it possible to upgrade ram and GFX on a laptop? Or is it only possible on Desktop?

To be clear I mean GT 650m w/ 2GB

For one, I don't think a GTX graphics card is compatible with a laptop, you're going to have to find a laptop-specific GFX in order to upgrade. Now, I haven't worked with laptop parts or building or upgrading, so I'm not sure exactly what there is or where you can find them, or even if you CAN upgrade. I'd suggest looking around the internet for laptop video cards.

you cant upgrade laptop graphics cards. by a simple swap...

You can easily replace the ram though

So it's impossible? Unless you have some external crap?

there are GTX cards for laptops, they're mobiel versions tho but they exist. just look at the MSI GT60, GT70, GE60, GE70 series.

well technically it's possible, but you'll lose the warranty on the laptop if you open it, so i won't advice you to open it.

Changing the mobile graphics chip on the laptop can't be done (Unless you have some pretty fucking extensive knowledge in electronics). You can change the ram or hard drive easily enough though. Don't lose hope, there is a way to get a desktop graphics card hooked up to a laptop though it is very expensive.

Village Instruments : ViDock

It basically acts as a chassis with all the electronic components you need built into it, from there all you need to do is connect the graphics card to it and then plug it into your laptop using a cable. If you do plan on doing this, then you must make sure your laptop is compatible with it (Read here - http://funtothinkabout.com/computers/adding-a-desktop-graphics-card-to-a-laptop/)

Best of luck, if you need any more help just reply here or message me directly.

It depends on the laptop. What you need is a laptop where the GPU is connected via a socket however without knowing the exact latptop I cant say if you do. It is also possible to replace it even on a soldered in GPU but thats not going to happen. If you arent concerned about voiding a waranty and do have a laptop with a socket interface for the GPU (uses pins for easy replacement instead of direct soldering) it is quite possible that you could do this. You would however have to keep in mind the increased power draw and thermal output of a more powerfull card so unless you know for sure your laptop can handle the load I wouldnt do it. If however a higher end card was an option when your ordered your PC I should think you are good to do. As to the RAM, unless you have a mac (lawl mac) you should have no problem at all replacing it, just make sure you have the correct type (right interface and dont exceed what your motherboard says it can handle). Its also quite possible to upgrade wireless cards, optical drives, ect. on a laptop just like on a desktop its just that the format does not lend its self to easy access and there are more things to keep in mind. (height of optical drive for example) Post your laptop model here if you will so we can see what is possible for your laptop. Happy to help if you decide to change anything out.
