TheVirus Posted May 1, 2013 Content Count: 3391 Joined: 06/12/09 Status: Offline Share Posted May 1, 2013 This is for anyone that uses ESEA: Popular competitive gaming league ESEA admins caught installing Bitcoin miners on player's computers without consent, stole $3,602 dollars : Games ESEA client basically a virus : GlobalOffensive tldr: lpkane, the owner of ESEA, put bitcoin mining into the ESEA client without authorization from subscribers. He mined well over $3000 worth, if not more, and has essentially brushed it off as if it were nothing. I advise you to uninstall and unsubscribe from their service and use something else. People recommend Play PUGs and Ladder Matches at Leetway. I don't use any of that, but I figure many people here might. Do not take this lightly if you use ESEA. This is a breach of customer trust, privacy, and authorization. lpkane should be sued for this by people who have damaged cards/rigs, not to mention energy costs. To give you an idea of how big of a dick this guy is, he first claimed it was running for 48 hours and mined 2 BTC. Later, he said it has been running for 2 weeks and has mined 29 BTC. Do not trust him or his company. Do not give him money. If you know people that use ESEA advise them to consider another service. 3 Link to comment

Glad i was never a part of ESEA. Definitaly going to let the people I know who use ESEA about this. Looking forward to seeing some lawsuits against overheated rigs/privacy breaches. What consolation does ESEA offer players? 1. 100% of the funds are going into the s14 prize pot, so at the very least your melted gpus contributed to a good cause 2. every user who was premium this month will get a free one month premium code which they can use whenever and for whomever they like, and you'll find the code under manage accounts -> premium codes source- http://play.esea.net/index.php?s=forums&d=topic&id=492152 Link to comment

Kurohime Posted May 1, 2013 Content Count: 954 Joined: 05/29/12 Status: Offline Share Posted May 1, 2013 good job ESEA, you were, at one point, the most popular and well-trusted competitive gaming setup there is. now you're not going to exist anymore. Fucking asshole thinks he can get away with this shit, the profit won't go into the pot whatsoever, the profit will go into buying the effected new computers :\ 1 Link to comment

Determined2Win Posted May 2, 2013 Content Count: 2427 Joined: 09/16/08 Status: Offline Share Posted May 2, 2013 Shady company doing shady things...again? The fact that this doesn't surprise me says something. People will always look to screw over the desperate. Lpkoins backpedaled constantly with this thing and now Torbull is throwing out PR paragraph after PR paragraph to cover someone who should have been let go long ago. The "rogue employee" won't be going anywhere by the way, if your jimmies haven't been rustled enough. They must really love that client! Link to comment

Hope it doesn't get brushed under the carpet and none of you guys have been affected by it. Link to comment
