I think somehow, overnight, my guess is magic, the bootloader got corrupted? I honestly have no clue as I wasn't touching anything with partitions, or my hard drive or anything. I played some league of legends, used the internet, went to bed, woke up, won't turn on. So I want to get a repair disc (ie bootable usb) to repair my windows 8 startup. But I can't boot a regular windows 8 iso because my laptop isn't bios, it's uefi. I have a guide on how to create a bootable uefi usb (http://www.eightforums.com/tutorials/15458-uefi-bootable-usb-flash-drive-create-windows.html), but I need an EFI bootable iso in order to do it, and I have NO idea where to find an EFI Windows 8 iso. Been googling for a few hours now on my friends laptop, but I can't find one.. I'm going to continue googling after I take a nap, but has anyone had this happen before? Or does anyone know much about uefi and how to get a repair disc to boot with uefi? edit: So the fact it's uefi shouldn't affect whether or not it will boot (means it wasnt booting on my laptop for a different reason (i'm not sure)). But I got windows 8 on a usb and my laptop will boot from it. I also believe my main hard drive is okay. Which means I just need to fix my gpt on my ssd. (I think). Will keep this updated on my progress, if anyone has anything to add feel free to do so, but I'm going to sleep soon. Idk what I did, but it seems to be working lol. I installed just a fresh copy of win 8 onto my ssd. Then when it booted up, it booted into a fresh install of win 8 (makes sense) then, when I booted up a second time, it just started booting into my old version of windows, so I think I'm just not going to touch anything and hope it keeps working. SneakySnake Posted September 16, 2013 Content Count: 1910 Joined: 08/07/08 Status: Offline Share Posted September 16, 2013 All 64-bit versions of PCs running Windows certified by the Windows Certification Program will use UEFI instead of BIOS. To learn more about your PC's support of UEFI, refer to documentation that came with your PC. So any 64-bit version will install correctly, regardless of it saying specifically that it is an UEFI iso. When creating the EUFI installation on a flash drive, are you configuring it as a GPT drive first? Otherwise it will not work. You can use the use the convert gpt command line to do so. I have no idea why your OS is booting up into the old installation, but if you wish to access the UEFI setup, you can follow the steps below. Press the Windows () key + C, or swipe in from the right edge of the screen to open your Charms. Click Settings. Click Change PC Settings. In PC Settings, select General. Under Advanced startup, click Restart now. The system will restart and show the Windows 8 boot menu. In the boot menu, select Troubleshoot. In the Troubleshoot menu, select Advanced options. In the Advanced options menu, select UEFI Firmware Settings. Click Restart to restart the system and enter UEFI (BIOS). dont mind the bullet points, whole format got fucked up when i cp'd the line from microsofts website Link to comment
