Sounds like a lot of effort to differentiate between people who would vote vs the whole. Considering most of the people that would vote on a forum poll are the active ones. And we already spend time trying to get people on the forums, which should directly correlate to people voting.

I can follow in that.. But then we have to announce it in the servers that we're going to expand/start a forum-wide poll. And ask them all to register to http://www.steam-gamers.net .

SA's should be encouraged to ask people if they would register on the forums. It's only one line of text.

There is already things in the server that say "visit steam-gamers.net". You're trying to put too much effort into a small part of the problem at hand. Plenty of people vote on polls that are important and in one of the main sections that get read a lot. Spamming servers about a poll is excessive.

At least half the people on MG either don't have a forum account, or rarely use it. Same goes for PB and others. A LOT of people on the forums are people who have been here for a long time, and really only sit on the forums because the servers are boring or they are busy. It makes the most sense to get the opinions of those on the forums, as they are the ones that will probably play the new servers.

That's also one reason I am conflicted on the TF2 idea. I'd love it, but as Neme pointed out, it's been out for 6 years and other servers have already made their marks on the TF2 community.

I think the main reason the SG TF2 server failed was because it was payload. Payload is probably one of the more favored gamemodes, especially in pubs, however SG jumped on the payload train about 5 years too late. The idea seemed good on paper, but since there were already thousands of dedicated payload servers already up with good player counts the only way for the SG server to succeed would be for SG regulars to just camp the server 24/7 until other players recognize it as a server that has a decent player count. That's why I suggested the fun server, as currently it feels like an untapped market that SG could tap into. There's only a few around, yet if you search Google they appear to be in demand with a lot of the first page results linking to threads asking for good fun servers (now imagine if SG's server was linked on the first page instead).

If I could get a new server to stay popluated in a game that has only 200 servers left and a player base that has been shrinking since 2004 then im sure SG could easily pull this off if members of the community, even if just a few friendly faces, made sure to stay on the servers and make any newcomers feel welcome.

This is something that's thrown around a lot but no one seems to take seriously. Sure after a new server comes up the hype gets people to join for the first week or two but then after the hype dies out people lose interest. It takes dedicated people to try and fill the servers up for them to truly thrive, like what Nishok and Silent (among others) did with the NS2 servers.

Chivalry is a good idea, the only thing it takes to get other people on/make it popular is to already have players dedicated towards getting on it when its empty.

Good chivalry servers with a decent ping and without lag are rare in Chivalry, but if we can bind those people to SG, They will be coming back. But you have a point about this. Banana Joe said that they are planning changes, so we'll have more insight on it in a week or two.

SG is no lost cause, we are working together as a community, what the whole point of this community must be. Having fun with decent people and innovation of the community by working together as a team. If we have that, it doesn't matter to me if a server dies over time.
