I work in the OR(actually at work right now, just got done with a CABG--bypass heart procedure) and adults coming in and what not are not a problem. Children on the other hand have always seemed to get the best of me when they are worked on. I can only imagine what it's like to give your child away temporarily in an attempt to better their life. A child is a gift and whilst it is obviously going to be a disadvantage to him in life he can still live a good one and it may bring you closer to him throughout his life.
