Mudkip™ Posted January 1, 2014 Content Count: 528 Joined: 01/16/12 Status: Offline Share Posted January 1, 2014 Honestly, I haven't donated at all, even though I'm a supporter. I most likely would, if something like Zaraki said would happen. If I knew how the money was going to be used to help the community, it would give me, and everybody else a lot more incentive to donating. Also, getting rid of servers that are constantly empty for current games, like DayZ, JC2 MP, (Maybe some other FPS games, like BF4 or COD? Don't hate me) is the only logical thing to do it seems like. Getting rid of old, dying or dead servers to make way for new games constantly getting new players can bring masses of people into the community. 1 Link to comment
frosty Posted January 1, 2014 Content Count: 3401 Joined: 07/25/11 Status: Offline Share Posted January 1, 2014 $300 is for all of the servers, vent and the forums and the extra donations will go to the extras that are planned, I think we are planning to upgrade to VB5 for the forums. I will throw a suggestion in the discussions about dead CS:S servers as they are pretty useless now. Link to comment
Paralyzed Posted January 1, 2014 Content Count: 3729 Joined: 10/14/07 Status: Offline Share Posted January 1, 2014 What we shouldn't do is wait for that one special "season" to fill up the servers by itself. I've been away from the servers for quite a while (approximately 5-6 months) and it's really unfortunate to see that they are still in the same state as they were a while ago. While I understand that if we want to expand to other games it requires people to keep donating to make these things possible, they are now donating to servers that appear to be dead for couple of months now. (Yes they have their times when they are filled with perhaps 20+ players on specific days) but it's not worth to keep donating for. I believe Zaraki was the one that shared the exact same feeling as I do. You need to give the community members a goal to donate for, because right now most of the players don't see a goal, because all they constantly see are empty servers and that just doesn't motivate people to send their money to. Perhaps this all means that we maybe should scrap some of the dead servers. Theatre (which I've spend quite some time on, but wouldn't mind), ZE (We tried so many times, but it just doesn't bring back any interests), Trikz, Zriot and what else more. Yes, it's a riskful move, but as you can see... they are needed to be made. We won't reach the goal if it continues this way; we need to take more risks and see how that turns out. I'm not going to tell you on what games to expand, as I'm totally not aware of what games are popular nowadays, but I do tell you.. you need to start cleaning up the dead servers, and start with new servers on different games. 11 Link to comment

Lupin Posted January 1, 2014 Content Count: 1086 Joined: 07/28/12 Status: Offline Share Posted January 1, 2014 Let's have a pizza party if we reach the donation goal. Maybe if we complete the goal servers become double credits for the next week? If we make double of what the donation goal was then everything in the store becomes like 50% off? Link to comment
XeNo Posted January 1, 2014 Content Count: 6466 Joined: 07/22/08 Status: Offline Share Posted January 1, 2014 Alright someone has said this before and I'm sure it will be said again. CSS is a dying game and having all these servers that don't have a steady population are not worth being paid for. We can't keep funding servers that don't bring the reason to keep funding the said server (ZE, Zriot, Cinema). Also bringing a server back to life through an event for a day or a few hours doesn't really bring the reason to keep it. To add players we need to add some new servers. Also I'm not saying to scrap every server that doesn't too well, I'm just saying a server that stays empty most of the week should be gotten rid of. Now keep donating towards the monthly goal guys. This is one of the major things being discussed is a matter of our empty servers. We will be clearing them out slowly and putting in new servers to replace them. We have been talking about a full CS:GO conversion of our servers, or perhaps removing the constantly empty servers, replacing them with CS:GO versions of our popular servers. This is being discussed as I said and I can't stress to you enough how much I would like to expand SG beyond CS:S. I'm sorry no real progress has been made in the past, but this effort for change is being driven by myself, other AO's, and the BD's are starting to get on board as well. First of all.. I'm glad XeNo that you held your word and played open card here. But this is an empty promise in my opinion.. Hear me out why. 1) We haven't reached our monthly goal once or twice this year. We used the extra money to fill in the blanks. Didn't we see this coming this year? As Neptune said, CSS is a dying game.. The way that we have to struggle sometimes to fill up the servers on a weekend is sad. 2) The community rings the alarm bell. The money is enough, but not enough to improve. But what are we going to do? Will we all just donate blindly here? I think that the higher-ups should be given a week or two max to work out a plan. As I said in my New Year thread, the community is not of that nature that it would like Steamgamers cease to exist. Caution, Nishok and MPQC. This may be something that isn't going to fit into your schedules. But we should be informed with everything you guys know. We shouldn't donate money to Steamgamers unless you guys give us a clear schedule of what those changes are that you want to achieve with the money that you ask. If I can speak in the name of most people, I don't care if I have to donate.. I'd be gladly to help out with 50$ or more.. But I wouldn't like to see my money disappear in the hands of a small group of people that doesn't know what to do with it and just spends it on the wrong investments. What we need: A plan of what changes will come and what the total cost is To take a peek at other communities.. What do they have? A better and faster management or creation of servers. DayZ, Just Cause MP, ... Those new games that would lure people into the community.. It doesn't matter if the server dies after a month or two if we can get the players to join the community and convince them to buy the other games for the servers that our community has to offer. It's no shame to copy another community like eGO.. In the way of servers atleast. New ways to donate, paypal isn't easy to use.. if PaysafeCard was introduced, it would be very easy for German, Dutch and Belgian players to donate atleast.. Good luck and keep us informed! You need to give the community members a goal to donate for, because right now most of the players don't see a goal, because all they constantly see are empty servers and that just doesn't motivate people to send their money to. In light of these posts, I will explain more detail about why we are requesting extra donations through this thread: We want to completely revamp the Forums, we found that if we upgrade our VB (Which to my knowledge has not been upgraded in awhile) to VB5, we will achieve that, and with the new look we would start rolling out new changes to show you guys some actual progress in changing SG. The new VB5 license is about $200 I was told, and this thread is attempting to cover those costs. Extra funds beyond that are just to help make sure we sustain the servers, or put towards any other licenses we may end up needing. Floffy recommended I tell you this in the beginning, and it's my apologies I did not go into further detail about what this thread is about from the beginning. 2 Link to comment
Spartan Posted January 2, 2014 Content Count: 4550 Joined: 06/05/08 Status: Offline Share Posted January 2, 2014 Shit son, I can't say anything without everyone throwing money at me ;O. Just so you know... The donation goal of 300 is actually considerably lower than what I pay out, but it wasn't always as much as this (When we used to use Amit's webhost for fastdl and forums etc). The actual amount is closer to $400, but for security reasons I'm not gona go listing what we pay for. Normally the donation goal was kept lower because we always made over the goal anyway, and the extra I have is more than enough to cover for a while. I do in fact have funds that could cover the license but I saw no reason to invest in it. I wasn't sure if it was going to be wasted money, and whether it was going to go to Ryan, the guy that now owns this place (not Amit) but he never shows his face here. I only know him through Amit and through emails. This thread is a nice way to see people are still willing to donate should the occasion arise for it, but I agree that the donations should be self motivated and not because we asked. We owe that to the playerbase. 7 Link to comment
