I need a new gaming headset which have a (very) good mic + 7.1 surround sound. I have personally taken a look at different headsets but would appreciate some suggestions (steelseries siberia elite seems like a good headset, though I dislike the mic) on which to buy. I would prefer the price not to be much beyond $250 (because more than 250 seems like an awful lot to give for a headset).

I can personally only recommend the Steelseries Siberia v2 headset(s). Currently using the Frost Blue Edition and I had the normal black version before. Can perfectly use it to hear where people are and the mic is pretty decent from what I've been told, just don't put it directly in front of your mouth lol.

Idk how much better the Siberia Elite is, haven't tried it so far.

This is what I'm using right now. The only reason I got it was because I was able to buy it new for $12. I haven't had any issues, although it only being a usb headset can be a problem for some people.

I'd just buy a nice pair of headphones and a separate microphone.

Wow. I actually agree with what Neptune said 100%. Headsets are always worse than separates. (hint: separates are better for everything audio related)

$200 pair of headphones and a $50 mic will kick the hell out of a $250 headset.

I have heard good things about all 3 of those and they will all sound better than anyheadset this side of $500. I can personaly vouch for the Grados being truly stunning. Of course there are many options available other than those.

I only said it because I've broke countless mics on headsets while the headphones work fine, or vice versa.

That too. I have never had a pair of headphones break but I have had about 5-6 headsets die on me.
