Wolfy Posted July 23, 2014 Content Count: 65 Joined: 09/15/13 Status: Offline Share Posted July 23, 2014 Hello, thank you for clicking on this thread and hopefully someone out there can help me out, because this is my first PC I've ever built and something is definitely wrong and hopefully it can be fixed with the help of someone. Okay, so I've done an "external build" to see if it would simply boot up without any problems. Yes, it did. I heard the *beep* from when it starts up, and it showed some information on a monitor I have. I don't have an OS (operating system), possibly that's the problem, I'm just not sure. So when everything booted up for the very first time, it stayed on, so I thought there were no problems. So I turned it off and then I started the "internal build." So once I got that out of the way, I tested it again, and it wasn't working. I made sure everything was plugged in right, and everything was. It's just that when I pushed the button, the fans would start spinning and everything, but after maybe 5 seconds of the fans spinning, they all shut off at the exact same time. I heard the beep, just this time, there was no information on the monitor. Please someone help me out, a lot of money was put into this and I'm just not sure what's the problem. Thank you and goodbye. Link to comment

Check your CPU heat sink. If it is not clamped down on all 4 sides it will not be making contact with the CPU completely and the CPU will overheat in about 10 seconds or so. I mean seriously check it. It might not look loose but it only takes a little bit. Given your description, I am fairly sure this is your problem. Link to comment

So your power supply is rated at 500. Your Graphics card alone requires 500w power supply. My guess is, It worked on the 'external build' because you did not hae all the components hooked up, Thus keeping you at around 500w usage. However, when you did the 'internal build' everything is hooked up and requires maybe an extra 50w of power. (fans, dvd drive, network etc..) So in my opinion, ya check all the connections/ what everyone else said first, but I strongly think you don't have a PSU strong enough. Here is a PSU wattage calculator: http://support.asus.com/powersupply.aspx Link to comment

You were spot-on with your "550w Power Supply" because once I used that calculator, it stated that I need a 550w Power Supply. Thanks, hopefully if I get this it'll solve the problem. Link to comment
