So I saved up a couple hundred up till now and I got $100 at Christmas, I'm looking for a good laptop for school but I also want to be able to run games on it.

I'm willing to spend anything form $300-500 on it. Also I'm not very tech savvy so I wouldn't be sure what would be best to buy, any help would be great, thanks!

I have one of the Toshiba Satellite laptops and it is really good for gaming. Alienware's are good. And I think the company is Razer that makes amazing gaming laptops? But basically any gaming laptop would be pretty good for school. I have to warn you on any Chromebook though because since Chromebooks run Google's operating system, you can only use Google things, which is great for school, but you cannot download Steam.

I would not recommend getting a lower grade gaming laptop. Most of them are flimsy and run like shit and have awful battery time. If you're planning on staying a low range laptop like that, just get something durable, don't spring for something with a dedi graphics card because it's not worth it at that price range. If you need something for school, just get something cheap and start saving up again if you actually do want to play video games on the go.

Ah alright, thanks for the advice. But also to elaborate I'm planning to get it for college, and I have a little less than a year and a half to go until I would need it. I'll be getting a summer job, so would you have any suggestions for one maybe $1200? Just as an estimate of how much I'll probably have by this September.

If you're not planning to buy till September, then I wouldn't even bother looking at your options this early, because new laptops get dished out on a yearly basis. The only thing I'd be able to advise you on right now is to make sure you use your college student discount on the laptop you're buying, most big brands will have one. If you're really bent on window shopping this early, I'd just keep an eye on the new laptops currently being shown at CES atm and the brands you really want to look towards at that price point are MSI, Lenovo, and ASUS if you really want a gaming laptop.
