SpikedRocker Posted June 29, 2015 Content Count: 6242 Joined: 04/13/08 Status: Offline Share Posted June 29, 2015 Please don't ask me to be a sub anymore. I'm dropping out of this tournament because: - Our match was taken by double's team even when we had 5. It was then attempted to be scheduled twice more only to be called off. Eventually we got it going on the 4th time.... The delays are unreal. We should of just won by them ff'ing in fairness. - Even when teams play, there are subs from like other teams playing for them. This is just silly. The ranks get messed up and it turns unfair. - I'm sick of playing late at night (like 1 - 3am). - I'm sick of the latency issues (both with myself and others). - The BM has turned up 10x the normal amount, with players just turning racist and/or not even trying to play. - Our top ranked, Griffin, doesn't even play for us, and if it's real life calling then we may as well just ff the matches anyway. Neither do half of our team play. In any event these are all excuses you might say. At the end of the day I'm hating playing this tournament and I can't be bothered anymore. Sorry to my team and any that ask to me to sub for them later. I have told the captains and now informing everyone that I have suspended the tournament. We are going to rebuild and try again, I will have more information on this later this week. The reasoning behind it are pretty much outlined in Spartan's post. I plan to address the scheduling and ranking issues. I am deeply worried about the racism that has been thrown on this server. While we may not have a "proper MOTD or rules" posted on the server, SG rules still apply, you guys know the fucking rules didn't think I had to actually spell them out for you. For future use, anyone who breaks SG rules will be punished like they are in any other server. Clean your act up or we will ban you. 2 Link to comment
Griffin Posted June 29, 2015 Content Count: 472 Joined: 06/16/11 Status: Offline Share Posted June 29, 2015 (edited) I'm terribly sorry that i was not able to make it even though i said i was able too, but even at that i wasnt told that it was definite that there was going to be a game. I also cant control what happens, that being if i have to suddenly go somewhere or get forced by shitty family. I'm sorry i didn't let anyone know before hand because i was rushed/had dead phone so i couldn't go on the steam app to let anyone know. But that being said the way this scrim tourney was set up as spartan said in his post with people from other teams being able to SUB also when spiked had clearly stated that no other players we're allowed in yet boomy was still able to play as a sub. Also the fact that we we're going to play a match that the other team initially asked us to play and we we're all ready but they had people leaving because of personal issues. Not really blaming anyone i could give less of a shit, just please dont try rushing into the scrim tournament again like you did this time seeing as how it was really terrible, No Offense to spiked and beagle. If you would have just waited a bit rather than starting it so soon it wouldn't have been such a cluster fuck. harpo is poop 1 Edited June 29, 2015 by Griffin Link to comment
Black Rain Posted June 29, 2015 Content Count: 6759 Joined: 06/23/13 Status: Offline Share Posted June 29, 2015 I spoke to my team members (Griffin, Spartan and Harpo) about this and I couldn't agree more with Spartan's and Griffin's post. No offense to Spiked or Beagle at all but I wasn't finding any fun throughout this tourney and I participated in on this for that expectation. I agree that I felt the tourney should've started later such as late July or early August because many people have too many commitments at this time of the summer imo. Thanks for trying to get this to work as much as possible though. 1 Link to comment

I mean its either you play the matches on time or it should be a forfeit for both teams. Also it would be a good idea to get one of the tourney creators to watch the game to make sure it runs smoothly (just a thought). SUBS SUBS SUBS, honestly if 3 of your team members aren't available that should be a forfeit or a rescheduling if there is still time to play the matches. 2 subs isn't even going to help because that's 40% of your team not available, AKA that's not the real team at that point. Subs should have to be either registered to a team or have a pool of players just for substitutions (maybe both idk). Scheduling was definitely a huge problem. Maybe the creators should sit down with the two teams (or team captains) before the games and schedule a time good for both teams. Honestly it's not that hard. GIVE PENALTIES if a team breaks a rule make them pay for it. No offense to SpikedRocker Beagle or anyone else who assisted in this tourney but this tourney had a lot of confusion and poor management. Also Spiked and Beagle have a life just as much as we do (or don't). I don't think it's there fault regarding scheduling, they've done their best to keep things going. I would say however, there needs to be strictness on playing matches or else just forfeiting. Sad thing is half the matches would turn out this way probably. Link to comment
BlackEagle Posted June 29, 2015 Content Count: 1950 Joined: 02/15/10 Status: Offline Share Posted June 29, 2015 (edited) Honestly don't apologize to me. The funny thing is that we gave the captains so much freedom to not only schedule their own matches but to feel free to contact us with issues. With the exception of my own team members I never heard one thing from anyone until now. So it's great and all that you guys have these ideas and issues but there really isn't anyone to blame but the captains themselves. Could we have done things better? Sure. I'm not saying that but when I say that BOTH CAPTAINS HAVE TO AGREE TO SUBS like 10 times and yet people still bitch about the situation don't apologize to us. As for the rushing into the scrim tournament I have to kinda laugh at that. We set this up for like a month and people kept asking "when are we gonna start?" "is this even really going to happen?". The thread was open for suggestions for like 2 weeks and nobody really provided a ton of feedback except on how to structure teams. Once again we were open to any suggestions. I tried to make the round robin fun by allowing other subs that joined late but restricting them for the actual tournament, yet people complained about subs when all you had to do was just say no they couldn't play. What's apparent is that it seems to be my team, which I stepped away from mainly after a few days because I knew that during June I was going be slammed at work, which I was. Now my computer is broken so I have been away for a few days because of that while I wait on the parts to come in. But from what I see my team lacked significant communication. In fact I only heard from about 2 of them about matches and the one I did show up we somehow got booted off and my other teammates didn't even know I was coming even though I told a member that I was. Yeah, people are busy and it's hard to schedule matches but when we give you 2 WEEKS to play 2 maps (less then 2 hours of your time) and yet only 1 set of matches gets completed then I don't know what to tell you guys. We didn't give you specific times because of time zone issues and peoples personel schedules. In fact we were open to adjusting anything for you guys, yet I have to come on here and see people listing out complaints of things that the captains should be taking care of themselves. There was also a thread about racism in scrim: http://www.steam-gamers.net/forum/showthread.php?t=61479 in which I thought it was pretty clear that racism wasn't allowed. Obviously if you want it to stop then just report them and they'll be banned. I can't sit around and babysit the scrim server looking for racism when 90% of the actual participants are admins themselves or clearly know that it isn't allowed in any SG server with the exception of TS. As for the start date, again nobody approached us before this began saying please start it later on. So saying that we "rushed it" and should have started later would have been great to know BEFORE we began. Not to mention that we gave a weeks time on a regular basis and on one occassion we gave 2 weeks to complete matches. That's half a month for those keeping track at home, which to me is a substantial amount of time and in no way can I see that as "rushed." Spiked created a couple reminders and even I made a post about getting matches in this week and it was laughed off but I knew that getting matches in might be a struggle sometimes. So anyways, yes this wasn't going to be perfect, nor did I ever expect it to. I knew there were going to be issues and there clearly are but the issues outlined are out of my control. As I said from the beginning this isn't ESEA yet people still treated it as such. I can't control latency, I'm not in charge of the server, I can't babysit racist people in the server, I can't make your teammtes attend matches, etc. But what I can do is fix problems that you approach Spiked or myself with. We always left the opportunity open yet nobody seemed to seize it until a group mentality was created the last couple of days with people just dropping out and comlpaining behind closed doors. Maybe you guys approached Spiked and I just didn't know but I rarely heard much from anyone. Just to reiterate: Captains should have been in charge of scheduling which was left wide open for obvious reasons, players using racism should be banned and warned because every team has at least 1 admin that knows how to make a complaint, and captains were in charge of agreeing to substitutions and matches and such. I really don't know how many more times I could have said all that but apparently it wasn't enough. So from this point on I'm going to remove myself from this scrim event in its entirety. Between the constant bitching about substitutions and people joining late to the scheduling issues that were left wide open for ease of the teams it really just isn't worth it anymore. Honestly, Spiked put a hell of a lot more effort into this than me and I really apologize to him for this not turning out. People really took for granted the amount of work he put in to this and its a shame. So @SpikedRocker, thank you for the work you've done with this, even though we didn't seem to make it too far it wouldn't have reached this point without your contributions. 2 Edited June 29, 2015 by BlackEagle Link to comment
Neptune Posted June 29, 2015 Content Count: 1513 Joined: 10/03/11 Status: Offline Share Posted June 29, 2015 words TBH if the tourney was really going to happen the right way you would need the WHOLE SG administration team (CA+) to be participating not in the tourney itself but the general management. It was a lot to take on and thanks for trying @BlackEagle and @SpikedRocker +any others who assisted/participated in the tourney. Link to comment
Mudkip™ Posted June 29, 2015 Content Count: 528 Joined: 01/16/12 Status: Offline Share Posted June 29, 2015 Subs ruined this tourney. The rules even after being re-worded 100 times were still impossible to understand fully. People shouldn't sign up if they can NEVER PLAY THE GAME. Almost every game had at least 3 subs playing in it, and sometimes it was breaking the original rules, and sometimes it was people who have never even played an SG server or at least not in the past couple years. Either the sub rules need to be made again for the 101st time, or subs need to replace the people who never play anyways. There are countless people who signed up for this tourney and don't even want to play, so they just get one of their team's 80 subs to come play for them. Lastly, my team yesterday decided to just say fuck it yesterday and not try in the matches. The seeding games seem so pointless, and it's making the tourney take forever for one thing, and making the sub rules even more confusing. Link to comment

I cant stress this enough. thats why i feel that there should be bo2 eliminations or league rules should be applied. just my opinion though. Link to comment
BlackEagle Posted June 29, 2015 Content Count: 1950 Joined: 02/15/10 Status: Offline Share Posted June 29, 2015 It would be impossible to set times for matches because as soon as we do that people would drop out because some people work on those days and have other personal things. Not to mention the time zone issues. So we couldn't simply say Team A plays at this time if half their team works or is in another time zone. We had 40+ people signed up, there is no way we could figure out who could play when. Which is exactly why we said the captains should talk to their teams and find out the best times for them. Seems pretty simple for me. They find out 5-7 people's best time and schedule from there. Versus us having to ask 40+ people when is best for them. As for subbing I thought the rules were very simple. You can have subs but both captains must agree and the subs couldn't be from other teams. That's it. Pretty simple. A couple of people had restrictions on them that they knew personally and those were going to be enforced during the tournament. This was obviously taken too literally when people started to run globals together for some reason. I thought common sense would be in play but people like to stretch it. I will take 100% blame for this though for not making it clear to the captains from the beginning. It should have been placed in the rules from the beginning and that was on me. The round Robin was for seeding instead of randomly drawing teams for slots. We wanted 10 games to make it easier and to prevent tie breakers having to be designed. The point was also to get to know your team better and not go into a tournament blind with people you've never even met before. The tournament was going to be different but we obviously never made it that far and therefore those rules were never posted. Link to comment
