nick Posted July 30, 2015 Content Count: 2983 Joined: 01/08/13 Status: Offline Share Posted July 30, 2015 (edited) Introduction Ever since this system was implemented in 2014, you see an influx of regulars/subscribers joining the team and people are like "wow this person doesn't do shit!", and people won't make admin complaints because they're too lazy, or they might get shit on and it's just excuses after excuses on why they don't want this person to have admin in the first place because the person who has these administrative powers are just not fit for it but people won't file complaints for a person who probably should just remain a regular because they can't handle administrative powers and they just do not seem fit for it. Now I'm not saying "LETS BE FUCKING MAXIMUM SECURITY AND REPORT EVERY ADMIN WHO DOESN'T DO ANYTHING THEY'RE NOT SUPPOSED TO DO, OR WHAT THEY AREN'T DOING", I'm just saying to make the admin apps private because you could tell you see the same votes over and over again from the same people and it bothers me that people just get their friends to vote for them and they get it even though they probably don't deserve it. You also don't see constructive criticism because people are too scared to say what they feel about this person because they might get their post reported and it might be deleted for being too mean, so you see people who want to say why this person shouldn't be admins for the right reasons, they are living in a society like the 1600-1700s France that they can't say what they want to because they'll get punished. This does not go for troll posts like "WOW THIS KIDS A FAG DONT MAKE HIM ADMIN LOOOL!", this suggestion just makes it easier for people to answer without having to feel like they're going to get hate on by other people or the person who made the admin app. Also the adding back thanks to admin app was one of the dumbest shit ever because you can tell people only thank who vote yes making it seem more like a popularity contest which is stupid as shit cause we're giving admins to people who are "cool", but in reality being cool won't administrate the servers. Now lets move on to the questions or concerns you guys might have after reading this wall of text. Questions/Concerns you guys might have Question/Concern: No one in the SA section voted, only like 10 of 70 SAs did, that's why we keep this public so we get more feedback. Answer: We have new admins that could do that now, and most of them are active on every platform we have like Forums, Teamspeak, and the so we could still get the feedback we need. Question/Concern: Who said it was a popularity contest? Answer: It's clearly shown by adding the thanks system back, and having a bunch of people on your friends list to vote yes on your admin app Question/Concern: We can just have people not be scared to do admin complaints and they'll get dealt with. Answer: But that still doesn't stop people from getting admin easily by applying over and over again Question/Concern: We have it public to get the entire communities opinion. Answer: Server Administrators have been giving trust by higher ups and they should have an idea or a concept of what people should have admin that are fit for it and not just cool. Conclusion To conclude this big ass thread, I'd just like to say going back to the old system would be better because you see the formation of honest opinions, which is what we need, but currently are lacking because of this new public system. The lack of honesty gets people admin who don't deserve it or someone who after reapplying over and over again, and they might not still deserve to get it. Reason I'm making this thread is because there are a bunch of people who might feel the same way as me and won't do it because they know it'll get turned down because it might be a dumb suggestion or they're too lazy, but whatever it's worth a shot. I am not calling anyone out or anything in this thread so don't bitch because this is a real suggestion tl;dr read the entire thread or just close the tab Please leave feedback, any question/concern is welcome. 6 Edited July 30, 2015 by nick Link to comment
Mandeemoo007 Posted July 30, 2015 Content Count: 1459 Joined: 01/07/14 Status: Offline Share Posted July 30, 2015 I totally agree with this. You have brought up some really important points that I see happen and even do myself on friends admin applications of how I just say nice things so the person likes me still. rip Link to comment

Mudkip™ Posted July 30, 2015 Content Count: 528 Joined: 01/16/12 Status: Offline Share Posted July 30, 2015 Yes, a lot of the new admins have no clue what they're doing and really shouldn't have it at all. It's become more of a popularity contest than it was before and it seems like its mostly just about sucking dick. A bunch of people who are admins recently or applying have been around for like a month or two and that would've never passed by a while ago. This is why there are lots of problems with how people use admin in servers now. Link to comment
Fishey Posted July 30, 2015 Content Count: 569 Joined: 09/15/12 Status: Offline Share Posted July 30, 2015 I feel like the admin system has become a thing where only people who say yes vote. People are scared to say no to their friends even if they want to so i think it should be private again and people can post their honest opinions 2 Link to comment
Goku Posted July 30, 2015 Content Count: 2589 Joined: 02/05/12 Status: Offline Share Posted July 30, 2015 Honestly I wouldn't mind seeing apps go back to the old style, but still let the person submitting the application see what is being posted. IIRC under the old system you would apply, then just wait about a week to be told yes or no and in that time even so much as talking about the status of it with admins was punishable. Might just be me, but like just now when I applied, I WANT people to be honest with me and see what they think needs to be changed in my behavior. I think under the previous system you would be told generally why you didn't make it, but you couldn't see what was being said. I enjoy getting constructive criticism. For example, @Wooper said in mine today that he just doesn't see me as admin material as of my application and to reapply. So next time I see him I plan on asking what he thinks I need to work on so I can improve. And I'm glad he was honest with him. I understand tho that not everyone thinks like I do and some people would probably take the constructive criticism too personally and would get upset and because of that some people won't want to be honest. I think cappn's main point here was that having the applicant be able to see the votes will influence how people vote and what they say, which is the main thing he wants to get rid of. Doesn't want too much bias in the voting just because the applicant can see who says what. Link to comment

Doesn't want too much bias in the voting just because the applicant can see who says what. Yeah after I submitted it I was kinda mulling over that again. I see his points of people being afraid of being honest. Maybe a bit of a combination? As means of counteracting the "get your friends to vote for you" maybe switch back to only admins and higher can reply. It wouldn't stop someone from getting their admin friends to vote, but it would at least limit it. I still do think allowing the person that submitted it to see replies is better, but again I know that not everyone views the criticism like I do. I prefer transparency on these kinda things, but that's just me. Also not sure if it exists but maybe have a separate section in the admins section for them to discuss admin applications more privately? Link to comment

The point of this thread is to remove bias, not remove the right to give admin to new people. 4 Link to comment
