good points, ive been gone for awhile but i do remember the old system and i worked well for what it was, and i have noticed that there are alot of new admins that have NO clue what they are doing. it seem like its more of a status symbol for some of them.

I remember the old system, and I still prefer it over current one. Yes It's tough to say no if the applicant can see every vote. In the old system each vote was anonymous (from the applicant's point of view), so people could really be honest in the app, where in current system this isn't the case.

I think Vy's admin app recently shows that what you're saying isn't really the case.

Oh, and geez let's not return to the private system, that was even worse. Certainly wasn't private, everyone applying for admin (that wasn't a single post person or whatever) knew at least one admin who could printscreen the application for them. Hell, I'll admit mine was, mine and every pretty much every single admin that applied under the old system. All this does is make the whole thing more irritating for newbies, especially since they can't read the decent criticism. Just makes another 'special club'...

Most people there would've voted yes if a ban appeal from a complaint he made hadn't come about during the application. This is a situation that would not come up normally, doesn't really properly represent the problem at hand.

Also, while yes people did leak the info, privacy of the application isn't in question, but the honesty in posting. When admin apps were private people really dug in if they didn't think the person deserved it, there was much less filtering.

Not really, they were still hand-wavy praise most of the time.

In terms of honesty, the only things that have vanished are the comments about whether they personally like the person and petty things like that. Otherwise, the comments about how good an admin they would make are pretty much the same.

Tbh I preferred the old system where only the admins would get to vote. It made more sense because these are the admins that have the actual experience already for SG and with their input they are the ones that hold the real value of a yes or a no vote. Even during when there was a voting poll for admin apps, it made getting admin way too easily because of what Revenga had said when he made changes to the apps. We completely failed to properly give valid input at the time because our reasons for wanting to vote yes to a person weren't even actual reasons.

Yes, I understand you guys wanted to make it public for more community opinions but I completely agree with capp'n with how these apps have been going. I have no clue who half of these regulars and subscribers are because I've never seen them and they are voting on admin apps which makes me kind of worried as to are these people really voting because the person is admin material worthy or because friends.

Keeping the applications private makes more sense because we actually do have like.. 70+ SAs now? At least half of them are active in our community in one single way and it still makes it reasonable enough for them to be able to vote yes, no or abstain. We even have many inactive admins coming back to SG and still show a high interest wanting to administrate the community again so there really can't be any excuse anymore to not go bad to the old system.

BoM brought up a great point of

because this is what we really should have never left in the first place. With apps being private to only the staff, it gives us more comfort that we know other people (besides the admins of course) can't read what we have said on their apps. I can see people, including myself, be WAY more honest if apps were private because it's easier to get out thoughts between ourselves since we're all admins already and we understand what people should bring to the table in the first place. I have even felt at times where many of these apps just show friends giving support to the applicant out of getting more support but wasn't really sure if the applicant was worthy in the first place or not.

I guess the thank system is kinda dumb on apps too. It's basically giving out a free thanks to users and shows favoritism sometimes in many apps. I have never thanked anyone on my app until I was approved and getting a congrats because I felt like there was no point to giving out thanks when I was taking in all the constructive criticism with respect in the first place.

Heck, if you guys went back to the old system and asked me to go through the process all over as an applicant, I'd gladly do so because I wouldn't be ashamed of doing it. When I first started getting back on the forum, I was surprised to see you guys changed the system in the first place. At the same time, I felt like you guys were allowing to get SA way too easily. Even my app seems like I got SA way too easily.

So yeah, I agree with capp'n completely on his suggestion.

tl;dr Griffin says I need one otherwise he'll die. Hope bffl dies reading this.

There were much more critical comments, actual discussions about the person, and people strongly advocating for or against.

So yeah...
