Metal Posted November 18, 2015 Content Count: 11727 Joined: 09/17/08 Status: Offline Share Posted November 18, 2015 As much as I'm a Left 4 Dead nerd, don't see this going too far with L4D2 barely having a population and don't think too many from our CSGO community plays it. I'll just stick to bugging Spartan, Metal, Burger and Korean for custom co-op I tend to agree with @Black Rain... but if there is a trial server I'll get L4D2 again and I'll be on to see how it goes Honestly tho, anything aside from CS is hard to populate with the majority of any new players on anything else being really low. I think you are missing the point here. We are not trying to make a server which is populated like our CSGO servers. The point is to have it for our own use,not for others. Link to comment

But then what's the point of paying for our own server when we can just join any other official dedicated or best dedicated servers and enjoy our events on there? O.o there are so many empty servers in server browser and I'm sure some are vanilla too. Plus, it didn't seem like you you guys didn't have too much of an issue hosting the last event lol I feel like you guys are gonna blow money away on something we can just do "for free" but that's just my opinion 5 Link to comment

You say you guys get banned by admins for rushing and crap, well obviously don't play on those servers. If you are running an event, its always better to host locally anyway. I honestly can find better uses for $60 than this server. But of course I am a crap ton older than you guys and have to spend my money wisely. None of us are going to stop you from spending your own money the way you see fit, however, based on my experience and I'm glad someone else backs me up on this, it seems to be a waste of money. We tried finding servers which hosted 20 slots for VS. All of them were non-vanilla and had crappy Point systems. 2nd of all, Getting banned for swearing. Ping kicker Broken Plug ins Badmins We all had fun yes, but it took forever to find a server and we all disliked the point system. Also, How is it a waste of money when we have knifes in csgo lol It's only me and goku paying for it, so no one needs to worry. This is the point that I tried to put across to @Goku but failed. I agree and disagree. If we are able to host 20 players locally without ping issues for others, that would be great. We were banned for rushing and swearing. Most servers we found were modded, which is not what we want. As I said above, its Just goku and I, Even if we are able to use it once or twice a month for the next 6 months I'm happy with that. Either way; I'm not asking for money for a server, I can pay for that on my own. I just care about getting it so I can run get-togethers for it. Edited November 18, 2015 by Metal Link to comment

Waste of money. There are host out there that allow you to use a private un modded server with like 12 slots for a few hours. Do more research Link to comment
Goku Posted November 18, 2015 Content Count: 2589 Joined: 02/05/12 Status: Offline Share Posted November 18, 2015 Here's the thing. I'm not worried about spending $30 on the server. To me, I'll get my $30's worth just working on it. It gives us a 6 month trial period to see how well the server will work. Let's us see if there's enough interest to slightly expand our community outside of just CSGO. I don't expect the server to be something like PB or ZE where it's populated 24/7. But it gives us more freedom. It will make hosting events 100x easier in that we have a server that we can tailor to how we want to play. The whole not being kicked for small things like rushing or swearing, is only a perk. If we want to add a buy menu to the game, we can. We can also tailor that more to our liking. Which means tanks will won't be useless due to just reviving yourself. If we want to add any other feature, we can. Or if we want to switch to vanilla, we can do that as well. Yes, there's servers out there already. But I think I speak for myself, @Metal and a few others when I say I'd rather not rely on other people's servers to host our events. Even if 6 months from now, we let the server expire and move on, $30 isn't much to just give it a chance. We're basically paying $5 a month to see how this idea will work. And who knows, if things work out well, we might be able to discuss getting it added to our official servers, although I have little to no hope that will happen. At the end of it all, this is something Metal and I are willing to spend $30 each on, and is something we both think is worth the trial. Worse case scenario, 6 months later, we don't renew and we move on. Like I said, I'll get my $30's worth of entertainment and fun just setting the server up and seeing how well it will work. Just because you don't think a trial run of 6 months is worth $60 (split between 2 people nonetheless), doesn't mean we don't think it is. You're 10 years older than me, and 8 years older than Metal. It's not like we're talking about a 16 year old trying to buy and run a tf2 server on his own (rip Goku's summer 2012). I already said I'm going into this with minimal expectations. If it doesn't work, we tried. If it does, then hooray. Link to comment

XeNo Posted November 18, 2015 Content Count: 6466 Joined: 07/22/08 Status: Offline Share Posted November 18, 2015 No one will stop you guys from buying your own server and if you want to include SG in the name, well as long as we don't get complaints from the server, I don't think we're going to mind the bit of extra publicity. The problem you will have is funding for the server, which is something I can say SG won't be providing to you. Even if you have some successful events in the server over those 6 months, the server would be exactly as you state it and just be for fun not population or bringing in new players. Mainly because L4D2, KF, etc. servers that are found through matchmaking no one cares to rejoin or save in favorites over 75% of the time since they just join it through server finding matchmaking. If you are going to need donations for the server, that would have to be your own problem as well. If you can find members to donate for it then more power to you, but I'm not sure what you are asking for with this thread. If you're asking for permission to buy a L4D2 server and put SG's name on it, I don't think anyone here will have a problem with it. If you're asking for donations/support for the server, I don't think you'll find it. There's not much to be gained off a L4D2 server other than as you already state, ease of use for events and stuff. Goku Posted November 18, 2015 Content Count: 2589 Joined: 02/05/12 Status: Offline Share Posted November 18, 2015 @XeNo the initial point of the thread was to see how much interest we could gather if we do make our own, and to get suggestions. Initially the cost was going to look double what we are now expecting to pay. I was looking for feedback on if people would be interested in playing, as well as getting suggestions. Since I originally posted the thread, the payment issue has been resolved, with both Metal and myself willing to split the $60 for 6 months. If we get the server going, and people do wish to donate a few bucks towards another 6 months (if we make it that far) they are welcome to. But as of right now, we have the paying step taken care of. I will update the OP to clarify that. Now, it is mostly a matter of overall interest. It would be another week before we start the actual setting up process, so Metal and myself will gauge responses in this thread, as well as at the next event this coming Friday. I am glad to hear that we do have the okay to use the group name on the server, and as Metal and myself are both SAs and have been apart of the community for years now, I believe we won't have any negative feedback coming onto the community as we know what is expected of us representing the community and know how to handle a server.
