Pan32 Posted November 20, 2015 Content Count: 1747 Joined: 03/17/12 Status: Offline Share Posted November 20, 2015 All I have to say to your idea is this: https://www.gametracker.com/search/left4dead2/?query=Valve#search With nothing but a quick search on gametracker, you can find up to 2500+ vanilla servers from valve itself. 2500+. I sincerely see absolutely no point on buying/creating a server for the sole purpose of a drunk left4dead2 night section here and there on a month (unless you're planning on making your liver minced meat). "But we're ready to pay the money, thats not an issue" We're not stopping you from opening your wallet, we're just showing you how immensely redundant it is to spend that kind of money. Understand that there's much more to choose from if you just look around, especially if ou are planning on investing in it for 6 months, rather than a 1-3 month trial of the sort. "It might open a new avenue for sg to have population from!"/"It's for our own use, private" As you can see, first one comes from Goku, and the second one from Metal, and the fact that they're contradictory only tells me you're buying a server to do something that you're not even really sure of what it is in the first place. But putting that aside, to answer Goku's point (above explains Metal's pretty much), iirc, when left4dead2 was more popular, SG gave it a try and well...it didn't work out. L4D2 was, and always will be, "join a few friends in a lobby and play the campaign" kinda game, this makes community servers a very small attraction. The population has dropped quite a bit due to the influx of zombie survival games we have nowadays (as shown by darnias above), so there's not much of a point in trying it now. 6 Link to comment
Metal Posted November 20, 2015 Content Count: 11728 Joined: 09/17/08 Status: Offline Share Posted November 20, 2015 (edited) @Pan32 You guys are really making this into a huge fuss. The money we are spending is nothing compared to the money we spend on skins. The simple reason is to just have a server to use when we make a post for a small get-together or one of those drunk nights. Yes- It's a waste of money, but so is a double Bigmac with a super size fry, 12 pack Mcnugget and a Mcflurry. @michellec "Hungry?" Hell; I was here when L4D2 came out and I remember how things went, it was great fun and most of the time our group had a hard time getting a full VS lobby but never had an issue with Campaign. The sole purpose is to have a server that does not kick for ping and have badmins. First from the start; I told @Goku and the others, It would be a server that is used once in a while. I have no intention in trying to make this server bigger or expand it. ("It might open a new avenue for sg to have population from!") Even if its contradictory, Goku can do what he wants with it, I'm just helping with half the bill and I'll play it with my friends. As this is my final post on this thread because its Gokus thread and not mine. Server is for our own use that will let us do 10v10, no ping kicker, custom maps etc. But I do hope to see you guys join when we do get together, - Tonight actually. Goku Posted November 20, 2015 Content Count: 2589 Joined: 02/05/12 Status: Offline Share Posted November 20, 2015 Honestly, I feel @Metal and myself have two slightly different ideas of what this server could possibly be, but both work together nonetheless. Metal is using it simply to have our own server to do our community events on. I hold onto the slight chance of us possibly gaining even just one new member from it. Is it probably going to happen? Nah. I'd be willing to wager the odds of gaining a new community member from this are slim to none. However, who knows? Maybe we do, maybe we don't. We also might have someone that joins the community through CSGO, see this server and go "hey, I like l4d2 too. Let me get more involved with this community." Still not very likely to happen, but still. At the end of the day, its about the freedom and liberty. Even if we don't get any new players out of it (which we probably won't), it still allows us to work on and customize the server to our exact wants and needs. As I said, I'm going to enjoy just working on it and learning a little more about servers and how they work, on top of the enjoyment from just playing on it. Just don't see the big fuss people are causing ITT. Basically boils down to, Metal and I are going to open our own l4d2 server for the community, who's interested in playing on it? Link to comment
Nuclear Onion Posted November 20, 2015 Content Count: 3462 Joined: 04/07/13 Status: Offline Share Posted November 20, 2015 People are causing a big fuss because in the end they're actually trying to help you guys not waste your money when you can spend it on literally anything else in the world. That's literally it guys, not to bring you guys down or anything. Sent from my SCH-I545 using Tapatalk Link to comment

No fuss is being made, it's just multiple people making the same point. To me, it feels like the fact that they're not positive is what's making you say that it's a fuss. The money we are spending is nothing compared to the money we spend on skins. Yes- It's a waste of money, but so is a double Bigmac with a super size fry, 12 pack Mcnugget and a Mcflurry. @michellec "Hungry?" Im going to repeat what I said before: We're not stopping you from opening your wallet, we're just showing you how immensely redundant it is to spend that kind of money. No one here, much less me, cares of what you do with your money. From all I care, you can also be buying skins, BigMacs and inflatable sex dolls, it has no impact whatsoever in my life. Hell; I was here when L4D2 came out and I remember how things went, it was great fun and most of the time our group had a hard time getting a full VS lobby but never had an issue with Campaign. As I said, I'm going to enjoy just working on it and learning a little more about servers and how they work, on top of the enjoyment from just playing on it. Since theres two people paying the server in even parts, I would probably think that conflicting points about what to do with it is most likely a priority, in order to avoid disagreements, especially since one of the reasons this thread created in the first place was to poll to see if someone else wanted to throw a buck in, and no ones gonna do that if those things aren't defined properly. Again, it's down to you guys, people just gave their opinions about the idea, take it for what they're worth. Good luck with the event. 1 Edited November 20, 2015 by Pan32 Link to comment
