I was think.. When a freekiller comes and leaves the sever, :thumb:why don't we mark their name's with a tag or a color so the players and the admin both know

Generally if the person is a known freekiller they will be banned. Also, just call an admin into the server when they join as well.

Not sure how this would work because I don't think the server would be able to tell who's a freekiller and who's just good at the game.

From what I can gather he's suggesting that a certain tag or name color be associated with that player when he connects. Such as [Freekiller] Bob, or Bob .

 

Which, as Sean pointed out, can't be automated as the server has no way of knowing if a kill was legitimate or not. And no one is going to want to go into sourcebans and associate a player's steamid for something like that. Too much effort when admins already know if someone with a previous ban connects or not.

 

Regardless of the technical discussion, I don't agree with adding it anyway. Sometimes a player joins and doesn't know any better and gets banned. They then come back knowing the rules and behaves. Good example is Dominic here. I also don't like the idea of publicly shaming them they like that either. If someone is a repeat Freekiller, they will be banned. Either by admin in game, or someone can make a report.

You see, if someone got banned for free killing previously and said person joins the server and an admin is on, it'll say in chat for the admins that "thisrulebreakerfgt has x previous SourceBan on record" or whatever. Also I recommend admins also use "sm_listsbbans name" or "sm_checkbans name" to see if a person has any previous SB on record for any reason.

 

Also the fact that players can just make an player complaint and call an admin onto the server helps too.

Wait checkbans works instead of listsbbans? Fuck...I've been telling people about listsbbans but i sometimes have to try 2 or 3 times cuz I mess up on how to spell it right.

IIRC checkbans makes a pop up window of a person's SB record on SB if they've had a previous ban before.

I would not be for adding a feature that would label someone as a rule breaker. This would cause issues with people baiting people or prejudging people which is never a good thing. Honestly people and admins should treat everyone as if they have never been banned before so you don't get yourself into a dangerous gray area.
