Do routers increase download speed? I'm using the stock router that came with my wifi installation and my download speed is 250kb/s (you all may laugh, it took me 5+ days to install GTA V). Do you recommend that I get a new router, call my ISP and see if I'm getting the speeds I pay for, or both?

Not really sure it's a good idea to get this one.

 

I didn't actually buy it myself. We have free coverage due to my work and the provided gives you the routers. Idk, I feel like it's pretty good but I guess the Wi-Fi coverage isn't something insane. Then again I literally just got it today. Feels fine to me.

Oh and it kinda depends on where you live. If you have a bunch of people that use powerful routers around you they are going to kinda block your signal. Tbf i'd recommend getting various wi-fi points around your house (if you live in a big house) rather than a single router to cover your entire home.

Router doesn't really increase anything. It just caps it off because it can't handle bigger speeds.

 

That said, I don't believe that you only get 250 kb/s. I had an 8 year old router and it did 65 Mbps without a problem.

 

I'd definitely give the ISP a call, because getting 250 kb/s is pathetic. I get faster speeds off my mobile internet.
