Mission Impossible: World of Warcraft?

Recently I have gotten into playing this game thanks to my fiance. I haven't got the last two expansions yet but I am a long way from reaching that on my first character (planning to be my main).

I will be looking at purchasing the expansions eventually but my issue right at this point in time is how on earth do I find a good guild to join that will suit how I play the game and not end up guild hopping everywhere, finding bad experiences constantly or never truly knowing for sure if the guild I've picked actually is what I am looking for?

In Eve online I remember getting lucky first time going with the first invite I got to a guild but it also wasn't just a random join guild invite. That guild leader took the time to tell me about the guild and answer questions and have a proper discussion with me first before inviting me.

From what I have been told of WOW that sort of thing doesn't happen it is usually just a random invite if anyone is ever recruiting for the guild. If I am incorrect in this assumption please enlighten me but also advice on how to find what I am looking for in a guild would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you in advance for any help that can be provided! :)

From most of my experiences in MMO's (Including WoW) when it comes to finding a guild you might end up staying in, it's their recruitment messages in world chat that should catch your eye. If one does catch your eye then send a tell/whisper and ask about their guild (Like if they have voice comms, a website, what are they looking for ect.). Pretty much ask things you are looking for in a guild and see if they have it, then if they seem like a good place to be then join them. At this point they may put you on a probation period to see if you'll stick around, however it should be you putting them on a probation period to see if you want to stay with them. If they seem like the place to be then you're good.

When it comes to joining a guild you just have to look for guilds that meet the things you want out of a community. Really at the end of the day that's for you to decide personally what represents a guild worth staying in. ;)

Or you could just accept random invites till you find a guild worth staying in lol

Thanks that is really helpful advice but how do I get a world chat channel up as the general default tab always seems so quite and empty and I'm fairly certain world chat is never that silent...

Always chill in main cities when you're looking for guild messages in world chat (Like Stormwind or Orgrimmar). Since WoW does the whole cross realm zone stuff when you're outside a main city the people in world chat and walking around won't even be from your main server. So the most active world chat is usually in those cities.

Ah right that makes sense. I know this may seem like I'm being a daft not having worked it but I'm also on a tonnes of meds atm that are killing my brain so simple stuff I can easily muddle up. I will def check chat when in capital from now on.. Thank you!
