FLuiD Posted May 28, 2016 Content Count: 1083 Joined: 12/23/15 Status: Offline Share Posted May 28, 2016 (edited) Hello! So recently I played with like 6 or 7 people on a custom map named coop_mission_rush and we all had an absolute blast playing it! Essentially it's a just a coop mission (as suggested by the name) in which there is a linear progression that you follow until you beat it. In addition to this, the creator(s) have managed to add some really cool features like complete slow-mo while charging into a room after blowing up the door with a C4 charge and ziplining/swinging on a rope across a canyon that I believe players would really enjoy. There are also options to change respawn and difficulty. Also, there are many more maps similar to this after having looked it up. The reason I think this would be a good server is because it is really fun (obviously). However, a more non-opinionated argument would be that the server would be fairly similar to our Zombie escape server (one of the highest ranking servers in CS:GO) in that it's a coop style mode with a clear linear progression. Since this method has been proven to be quite effective in attracting players, I do believe that if done right, the server could become a popular one. Some of the drawbacks however would be that it requires a lot of work most likely. Some of this work includes: 1) Making sure maps are capable of supporting higher amounts of players than creators probably intended on, while keeping it balanced. 2) Typical server stuff, like plug-ins. 3) Adjusting maps so, as said before, the game could be balanced 4) More money. As for every server and anything in life, it requires money to run a server. 5) etc., you should be able to see where i'm going with this. The point of this thread was so I could potentially create discussion from all members of the community on there thoughts of a coop mission server, or maybe just to see if the community is interested in any type of new server/additions. However, I am just a regular ol' pleb, therefore I do not have the slightest clue on the practicality of such a thing, so please give any discussion, information, or comments you can give. Before you comment your opinion on if such a server would be fun or not, I highly recommend you try this map (or others) first. EDIT: After seeing chet suggest the idea as an event, I also think that could be a fun idea instead of a completely new server maybe -Fluid Edited May 28, 2016 by FLuiD Link to comment

I think it would be fairly difficult to get a co-op server running on SG though I do also feel it would have potential as an attention grabber. It has my support as a player of SG. Link to comment
Dominic Posted May 28, 2016 Content Count: 5678 Joined: 01/07/16 Status: Offline Share Posted May 28, 2016 There would be way too much trolling. Coop_mission_heist for example, people will drive off with the hand glide without their team, will drive away with the car without their team, take control of stuff like locked doors or lasers to break doors and never get off of them. These maps are very fun, but with a big amount of people it would be horrendous. Also, when you're picking difficulty/health people will argue over them or just shoot the start button before anyone has bought. Link to comment

Regarding the options on the map, I think that's an obvious thing to fix. We can have it so the difficulty is set and not changeable, or each time the map is beaten the difficulty should be increased one. As for the trolling, I honestly have no idea how that would be. Perhaps attempt to remove troll areas or not pick maps with too much troll potential? Or maybe have rules to enforce a no-trolling policy? I'm not too sure on what to do or if these suggestions are viable for various reasons. Link to comment
Leon Mordecai Posted May 28, 2016 Content Count: 5055 Joined: 07/19/15 Status: Offline Share Posted May 28, 2016 I feel like this type of gamemode would be better off just gathering a group of people and trying to play a map or two rather than actually making a dedicated server for it. Also I thought that these coop maps weren't meant to be played on actual servers too??? Link to comment

I feel like no-trolling rules would be too, I don't know, hard to understand? I can't really think of the word but what I mean is, let's take the original map I was talking about, coop_mission_heist. There is a part where you have to get a car in the field and drive to the bank (clearly this map wouldn't be played since the car only has 5 seats). So, I forget someone in the building and they start yelling, I'd probably be deemed rule breaking/trolling because I didn't pick them up. I do agree with your original points though, we can just have a set difficulty/health. Now, I don't think there are many CO-OP maps. Especially one's you'd be able to play with a server. As I said earlier there is only 5 seats in a car that is key to the mission on coop_mission_heist. Unless you can find a lot of maps for the server/event I don't see it happening. Link to comment

Sure it's fun, but it was glitching sometimes and if 1 person troll, we will never pass the level. This game mode is more like a group of people playing for fun . Link to comment

This could be maybe where we make a new server for a day and restrict it to a certain number of players, as most of these co-op maps have a player limit, usually a few players, probably not more than 8 players on the map (my guess, I have no clue but I played one a while ago that seemed to only work properly with 4 people). Next, this server would do worse than course lmao. It would have a group of people playing one map. Finish it, leave. Some other day the same group play a different map. Finish it and leave. This gamemode seems to have complex maps. The type of maps only experienced mappers could make, and I don't think many people actually make these types of map. Therefore, limited maps. It won't be a server that can just get randoms for population. This would be a server for SG members to reduce the time it takes to make their own server (via getting friends in a lobby and selecting the map and configuring it themselves. Therefore, it wouldn't benefit the community. Obviously a counter-argument can be made against scrim - It requires a group etc etc, but the thing is scrim is more fun and would get a better population than this server, and is a better deal. Overall, I don't think this server would be a good idea. It would be a drain on resources and we wouldn't gain much out of it. Now this is simply my thoughts. Who knows, an AO+ might think differently, make the server and it becomes more popular than ZE for all we know (no, it won't xd) but this is just how I feel. Link to comment

Great idea otherwise! Link to comment
