shoiep Posted August 2, 2016 Content Count: 2941 Joined: 02/11/12 Status: Offline Share Posted August 2, 2016 (edited) Recently (yesterday - July 31st), my friend mentioned Project M and wondered if it would work well over netplay. I told him that it should since people on twitch host online tournaments for Smash Bros. We then decided to try out Project M and after a while, we managed to make it a huge success. This morning (August 1), when I went to go check out the Project M page, I noticed that the guide was updated to include the latest dolphin netplay build. After playing a bit more Project M, we started wondering if we could play other games using this new dolphin build. I suggested we play Kirby Air Ride and it worked perfectly. I then suggested we play a Mario Party game. We agreed on Mario Party 7 and tested it out. It also worked perfectly. tl;dr - LET'S PLAY MARIO PARTY (and potentially other games) USING DOLPHIN EMULATOR DON'T FORGET TO CONFIGURE YOUR CONTROLLER. Disclaimer: I am not, in any way, shape, or form, endorsing piracy of any kind. If you do not have the necessary ISO or ROM backup files of any of the games you wish to play, it is your responsibility to obtain these files on your own legally. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- A Guide for Playing Mario Party (or other gamecube/wii games) Online through Netplay ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 1. Get this specific Dolphin Emulator build: Dolphin Emu Version 5.0-321 2. Grab the build and extract its contents into a folder anywhere on your hard drive. 3. Run the program using the .exe and configure your settings to look exactly like these (any other settings can be set as you please - I recommend using OpenGL for the video backend): (Right click and view it in a new tab if you cannot see it all.) (You can choose to have memory cards enabled but you must use the same memory card files as the host.) 4. Set your ISO Directory to a folder you create or have somewhere on your hard drive or in the folder you extracted Dolphin to under the paths tab. 5. Get your LEGALLY OBTAINED ISOs/ROMs/GC files and put them in that folder and hit refresh (if your games are there already, you shouldn't have to.) Note: You and the people playing with you should all have exactly the same ISO/ROM files to avoid any complications. DON'T FORGET TO CONFIGURE YOUR CONTROLLER. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- To Host/Join a Netplay Session ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 6. Click on the Tools tab and then click on Start Netplay 7. A window should pop-up. IF YOU KNOW HOW TO PORT FORWARD OR HAVE HOSTED A SERVER BEFORE, USE THE Direct Connection OPTION TO HOST/CONNECT. IF YOU DON'T KNOW SHIT ABOUT HOSTING, USE THE Traversal Server OPTION AND MAKE A ROOM. WHEN YOU MAKE YOUR ROOM, COPY THE ROOM ID AND GIVE IT TO YOUR FRIENDS WHO WANT TO CONNECT. Window should look like this after you choose to host: Important: When someone has joined your lobby, check their ping. FOR EVERY 8 ms OF PING SOMEONE HAS, SET THE BUFFER UP BY 1. IF THEIR PING COMES OUT TO BECOME A NUMBER WITH A DECIMAL, ALWAYS ROUND UP. Example: If someone has a ping of 80 ms, set the pad buffer to 10. Example 2: If someone has a ping of 65, set the pad buffer to 9. DON'T FORGET TO CONFIGURE YOUR CONTROLLER. You can change the pad buffer on the fly while in game, so if the game runs at shit fps and you know you have a good computer that can run the game, turn the pad buffer up or down until you get 100% FPS again. 8. Shit on everyone in Mario Party 7 as the big man, Waluigi: Note: Quick and subtle FPS dips once in a while are normal. Ping spikes do not cause desync. High-ass ping doesn't desync you, it only makes the game run like shit. If you or any other person desyncs mid-game, a setting is either not set right or your game files are different. Feel free to post any questions you may have. CONFIGURE YOUR FUCKING CONTROLS. 4 Edited August 3, 2016 by shoiep Link to comment
