This question is pretty frequently asked and since you can't post in the FAQ thread because it has anti-necro police watching it , even though it says to post suggestions for FAQs in there, I thought I should post this here instead.

People ask pretty frequently how to set an image/video/gif/whatever in their signature pretty often and although it is pretty frequently answered, I think that having a sticky post at the top would stop people from asking it all the time and if they still need help, they can be directed to the thread or can ask for additional help.

Something like this to aid those looking for help:

Signature Image/Video/Gif Tutorial

-In order to set and image/video/gif in your signature you first need to find an image/video/gif that is hosted on one of the supported websites. Websites can be found here:

http://www.steam-gamers.net/forum/showthread.php?t=64762

-If your image/gif is not hosted on one of those sites, you can either rehost it to a supported site, or find a different image/gif

Images/Gifs

-Once you have the selected image/gif, you can insert it into your signature

(NOTE) If you are not sub/admin+ you can only have one image/gif, and can only support up to two lines in the signature text field

-Copy the direct link to that image/gif

-In the top part of the text field, locate the option to "Insert Image" (It's in the second line, near the far right end)

-When the dialog box opens, paste the link and press "Ok"

-You can then preview the signature to make sure that the desired image/gif is present

-Alternatively, you can simply put "[.img] x [./img]" around where the X is located (X being the image link), simply without the periods in front of the imgs

Videos

(NOTE) Videos are restricted from normal users but links to videos can still be embedded in signatures as a simple click link

-The option to put videos in the same way you can above is not available for normal user signatures, but can be embedded the same

-Simply put "[.video] (Youtube link) [./video]" in the box, replacing the text with a Youtube link and by removing the periods

Copy code:

We are probably going to institute new rules involving this. We haven't set a date for it, but its something we've talked about getting changed. While your write up is good, given the changes we are going to make it may be a bit outdated when we do it. We'll probably use this as a frame of reference and find a place to put this information when we do.
