Paralyzed Posted October 29, 2016 Content Count: 3729 Joined: 10/14/07 Status: Offline Share Posted October 29, 2016 (edited) Honestly the only thing that I've been annoyed by so far looking through the admin apps is; people simply quoting someone else their post and saying "This." and leaving it at that. (That happens most of the time with support, but also with reapplies). Sure, it's nice knowing how others feel about the applicant but if you decide to VOTE on someones admin application then please describe YOUR OWN PERSONAL experiences that you've had with the applicant (even if it's similar to someone else their post, it will at least have more input to it). Not entirely sure where this thing about "people acting fake to get admin" came from tho, seems like that's how you feel about someone that already is an admin, or will be. 2 Edited October 29, 2016 by Paralyzed Link to comment
Euro Posted October 29, 2016 Content Count: 1984 Joined: 02/23/16 Status: Offline Share Posted October 29, 2016 I think hiding other posts would be a great idea. Many just lazily write "this^" (don't feel bad, no one is to blame for that) and/or giving fake/shitty reasons to support since "the majority voted support, ima be cool too". I don't see any downsides to this. People will have to give GOOD reasons to vote, cause I don't see a quoted "this" post as valuable as the guy who wrote it all, who gave the initial feedback. ^this From experience and others apps, I've seen so many times where people voted based on what others write when they barely know the applicant. It's always either a dick ride fest of "yes" or, in other cases,"reapply"s based on what another person thinks. I think having higher ups being able to see people write would encourage people the think for themselves and take time to know the applicants in that week rather than some brainless response to get post count up. Like what's been said, people wouldn't be saying "the shouldn't have got admin" and discredit people's effort to get admin such as "oh they just got it because they sucked dick for it" or "they're a girl". im pretty sure those of you reading know I'm specifically talking about you. BlackWhite Posted October 29, 2016 Content Count: 2262 Joined: 02/05/12 Status: Offline Share Posted October 29, 2016 (edited) Increase the time for people to apply to 6 months to allow the ENTIRE community to get a good handle on their pros and cons. 6 month is a little too much, although i am thinking 1 or 2 month would be an ideal period for them. Don't allow Mems, Regs, SAs, CAs, to see everyone's posts on applications. I would like to see this happen. except CA should see them as well. Remove the 100 post requirement (or lower it) I disagreed, the 100 posts requirement let us know who is willing to spam posts just to get admin *cough*, because he will almost never get admin. If all else fails, leave the decisions solely up to SA+ in a private section on the forums. oh Hell no. What I dislike about people applying for admins is that once they become an Admin, some of them will disappeared from the servers for very long period. Some of them thinks that admin is a cool rank to have (well....it is cool but...) and willing to spam the forum so they can applying for it. They don't think about the responsibility much. Hence the reason why i stop voting yes or give recommendation. ^this XD Edited October 29, 2016 by BlackWhite Link to comment
FLuiD Posted October 29, 2016 Content Count: 1083 Joined: 12/23/15 Status: Offline Share Posted October 29, 2016 I don't really feel like writing an entire long paragraph, so I'll just say this. I think you are overstating/exaggerating the issue too much (for the "issues" that are actually REAL issues that is). It is easy to see one thing that's out of the ordinary and get into a mindset where everything you see acts as an example in your head to further prove the point you are trying to sell yourself on. Like I said, some of the things you talked about aren't actually issues at all, but rather normal occurrences that will ALWAYS occur naturally. Of all the things you talked about, I only really agree on the idea of disallowing voters/commenters of apps to see the responses of other people. Link to comment

To not drop any names, you can just look at a few recents applications, Bread specified in the final comments. if you decide to VOTE on someones admin application then please describe YOUR OWN PERSONAL experiences that you've had with the applicant To add something to this point, cause I don't feel like editiing my previous comment, I'm getting SO tilted by people writing shit without expeciences with the applicant. People jumping on bandwagons to re-apply for something that happened months/years before they joined SG shouldn't be able to vote, at all. This is plain ridiculous, like people typing stuff like: "Great guy, funny, active, should get admin, but reapply cause i don't know you." I don't see the whole situation as being urgent, but I'd gladly take the change. 1 Link to comment
GhostTitanium Posted October 29, 2016 Content Count: 659 Joined: 01/05/16 Status: Offline Share Posted October 29, 2016 I would have to disagree with most of your post. Admin applications have created a giant rift in the community recently ... due to the somewhat detachment of AO, and BD's from the servers people will simply manipulative and act their way to admin for months I think you fail to understand how much the higherups talk to the community. There is a great deal of communication from regs all the way to BDs on teamspeak. I talk to regular members, SAs, other CAs, and AOs on a daily basis. Often times, people as low as regs give me and other staff members their uncensored opinion on regulars applying for admin. If a member of this community is in any way manipulative when dealing with staff I am almost ALWAYS told by multiple regulars and when that happens I immediately tell higherups about it. I have never seen a manipulative player get admin EVER, even if the majority of the comments in their app is supporting them. People have been regurgitating the same shit out of what seems like either laziness or dick sucking and the public nature of the applications has promoted people to bandwagon and pick and choose ideas instead of being an individual In general, people who regurgitate, shitpost, or dick suck in their reply to an application are most likely not going to be weighed in very much. The posts that are someone's legitimate thoughts about the applicant tend to have much more weight. People who literally type "this ^" are probably going to be mostly ignored. the AO's and BD's are not active enough on the servers to get a clear read on someone to make the SOLE DECISION to give them SA As I said earlier, we communicate a lot in this community so if there is someone applying for admin, the higherups probably know enough about them to be able to say yes or no. It is really easy to give the higherups your opinion, so if you feel as if someone who should not get admin might get it, just speak up because they will listen. Now onto your possible solutions Increase the time for people to apply to 6 months Increasing the time to 6 months seems like extreme overkill to me. I got CA in 7 months from when I joined the forums so why should someone have to wait almost the same time to become just an SA? If someone is active enough to be considered for admin then 3 months should more than enough time for anyone to get to know them. Don't allow Mems, Regs, SAs, CAs, to see everyone's posts on applications There are instances in which seeing others posts could be useful. If someone notices something bad about a popular applicant, but they think they might be paranoid and do not want to share their thought at the risk of seeming crazy, there is a good possibility someone else will have noticed it and commented about it. This would make the person feel more inclined to share their opinion because they will not be alone anymore. Remove the 100 post requirement This one is more debatable than the other ones IMO. I think if someone wants to be admin they should be aware enough of what happens outside the servers. Removing the requirement could lead to admins who never use the forums who are not aware of what is going on in the community. The requirement probably could be lowered but I see no reason to. TL:DR I think the system is fine how it is. 1 Link to comment
michellec Posted October 29, 2016 Content Count: 1546 Joined: 06/23/15 Status: Offline Share Posted October 29, 2016 I like the idea of people seeing what others write on apps. Sometimes I miss out on some detail and I look at others to see what I could add. Surely you'd be able to see from the BD's last response, but it's also nice to see what different people look for in admins. If I was a new player here, and I was interested in applying for admin, I would look for sample admin apps just to see how people act, how they reply, and/or simply how it works. Some people, like myself, lurk around to see what they could improve before applying for admin by reading responses by other players. On the other hand, if you disagree with what some people wrote, instead of claiming that they're hopping on the bandwagon on purpose, you could PM them. It's your application, you could point out that you did not do a certain thing. You don't have to stay quiet with stuff like that lol.. Otherwise, people are just going to see it as it is and complaining afterwards just isn't worth it imo. After all, we are in a community, and to think that it's unfair that the applications are not set to private seems kinda ehhhhh 2 Link to comment
All Ts Posted October 30, 2016 Content Count: 4441 Joined: 05/28/16 Status: Offline Share Posted October 30, 2016 (edited) @GhostTitanium I just typed up like 1000 words in reply to your post and it deleted itself. Anyway to call the reg to bd chain of communication anything but gossip is ridiculous and I honestly don't trust most of CA's (as they're inactive and easy to manipulate) to communicate what I think up to the BD's. To say there isn't a big distancing between the higher ups and the regular players is kinda also ridiculous. Just because people gossip constantly definitely does not make it ok for people to dick ride and make crazy retarded posts constantly. As for your point on being nervous to reply removing peoples ability to actually read what you're saying will also in that sense increase the AMOUNT and QUALITY of sincere legitimate points. The point you made about you getting CA in 7 months is pretty much a straw man argument in the fact that you getting CA in 7 months has nothing to do with the 50 people that apply every few months. I agree with you about the 100 post point I made 900%, I talked to @XeNo about this and have changed my mind on that solution. It definitely helps the higher ups get a feel for certain players. Anyway, I speak out as much as I possibly can but it's gotten to the point where people are so easily manipulated and uneasy to reply that making players posts not view-able by lower ranking players is probably the only existing solution. @michellec I already replied to most of things you have said (which for the most part has already been said here) but, I just wanted to say that this post has nothing to do with my application lmao. As much as I want to help SG, I'm not upset that my offer to help was turned down. If they think I need 2 more months to sit around and let people know me better that's fine with me. Despite the fact that people see admin as a vanity title and think it increases your time and fun on the server I see it in almost the complete opposite light. With ALL OF THAT being said.. This post was not made because of the direction my admin application went. Edited October 30, 2016 by GhostTitanium Link to comment

People jumping on bandwagons to re-apply for something that happened months/years before they joined SG shouldn't be able to vote, at all. This is plain ridiculous, like people typing stuff like: "Great guy, funny, active, should get admin, but reapply cause i don't know you." 1) EVERYBODY EVER should always be able to give their thoughts and vote on an applicant no matter what. You can't just shut down a group of people YOU feel are inadequate. This is why we have a buffer (BD's making the call in the end) from the public directly determining the outcome through popular vote. 2) It isn't,and should never, be up to you to make the decision that someones thoughts are invalid due to circumstances upon which they are made. For example, if someone says "i don't like them because they did this a few months ago," it is not up to you to say their thought/feeling is invalid because it was made on what you think is not an acceptable experience to use in a certain situation (like something that happened months ago). 3) Never make an assumption of how someone's opinion was formed 4) Kind of goes with point 3, don't assume someone is bandwagon-ing or their final vote was made the way it was because everyone else influenced them. First of all, it isn't necessarily bandwagon-ing if someone changes their mind because everyone else went against them. It is completely normal and OK for someone to change their mind based on what others have to say (I mean, that's how the BD's decide who to pick right? They make their decision based on what the community has to say in addition to their own beliefs). Secondly, everybody has a reason to vote the way they do. If they truly 100% thought an applicant deserved either a re-apply, abstain, or support, they would pick that decision in the end. If their decision changes based on others, that means there is at least SOME sliver of a doubt in what they believe, and that alone provides BD's with a massively improved sense of the entirety of the application. All Ts Posted October 30, 2016 Content Count: 4441 Joined: 05/28/16 Status: Offline Share Posted October 30, 2016 @FLuiD Experience with a person is actually extremely important in a scenario like this and honestly there is no point in having a buffer if it gets completely clogged with bullshit. Roux never said it should be up to him to pick and choose who's posts are bandwagon but I completely agree with what he actually said. People that bandwagon on shit and constantly dick ride are completely ruining the fact that we have community votes and devaluing what everyone else is saying by putting in little to no effort. You have to understand that the BD's are not fucking gods and they don't know what the hell is going on in the server 24/7. Roux's point and what I believe he was saying was that people should have to get their own fucking opinions on people, not that he didn't think their points are invalid. There is a massive difference between someones point being invalid and them hopping on the bandwagon. You completely distorted what he was actually trying to say. 1 Link to comment
