I think credits is going to stay my dude. I just think "store credits" sounds more professional than "SG$".

I read that as "Steam Gamers Dollars", and that name sounds tacky.

 

Would a name change influence or change gameplay or server enjoyment? For the most part, no. It would just cause new players to have to guess what it is, and what it does. We are not the only community that uses a credits and store system, keeping the name of the credits the same would cause less confusion overall.
