Deleting your own posts.

The reason we do not allow you to delete posts is for rule breaking concerns. Someone could go on an entire racist rant or do something else that breaks forum rules then delete it. They would most likely get away with it. You actually shouldn't be able to delete your own shouts in the shout box too, most likely an oversight.

There is no argument I've heard in my near 10 years of doing this to allow everyone the ability to delete their own posts. It may be inconvenient to contact a moderator, however, it is the best way to keep people from abusing the system.

But but but, CA+ can still see deleted posts :(

No you guys don't actually understand. There are 2 versions of delete for the forums. A soft delete which allows moderators to be able to see what it was, and a hard delete which obliterates it out of the database. Any option to allow regular members to delete would be a hard delete as they don't have moderator privileges to make it a soft delete.

Trust me I've been doing this far too long and it is the best way to do it.

maybe just different mind set on my part but if they do post something rule breaking, racism or what have you, if someone sees it they should screenshot it and report it. And if nobody sees it and it gets deleted then no harm done in my book.

Maybe instead of deleting the post they would be put in an archive that only higher ups can see and it may already work this way as caution thanked whoopers post saying something similar already exists.

not to discount the argument as what you said definitely is a legitimate concern just that there is other reasons to want to delete other than not wanting to get caught breaking the rules as four listed in his original post

We discussed this last night and as of now SA+ can soft delete posts. As of now we aren't going to change that for others. Maybe in the future we will look at it again but as of now looking at what it would take to make it happen is more than the need to have it done.

I was already able to delete my posts?

Or is that "soft delete" something different?

Kinda interested to hear an answer to Woopers question about whether it is within the realm of possibility as far as the permissions are setup on the Forums. Four makes a really good point that if we could soft delete our posts it would not do much as punishment would still be completely applicable. I could definitely foresee an issue of a ton of deleted posts and a ton of really ugly looking threads.

It's honestly such a small rare issue though considering if and when people fuck up-their posts are usually quickly deleted by CA+ or simply edit nuked by the poster (the AO's+ can see edits aswell I believe?)

I'm 99% sure you guys can see deleted things thus there is no actual problem. Just admit to us peasants that we cannot handle that much power so we can all move on.

+1 on this otherwise, even though IMO it doesn't make a lot of sense.
