I have been browsing the forums lately and I am curious on what it takes to become an Honorable Gamer and why there are so few players that are that position. I saw that there are more LGs and I would have thought that'd be a tougher rank to get rather than an HG.

 

I read over the description and basically got an understanding that you'd have to be in SG for consecutive years but what does it mean by "contribute more than an average player"? Does it mean donations or something else?

I think "contribute more than an average player" could mean a verity of things. Whether it be hosting giveaways and events to promote the community, or creating custom community maps, or helping test out and fix bugs within the site or servers. Or simply over the course of a long time, helping new players and being friendly.

 

 

And obviously, if you step down from an administrative position in which you have put effort to keep the community clean.

What @FunkyFingers said, plus an admin has to nominate you for that position. Then you'll be a topic of discussion in one of the Super Secret Community-Advisors Only Meeting, where they'll choose if you'll get HG or not.
