Admin grace period

Too often do I see members that are active everyday for months, then as soon as they apply for admin (their application is then approved) their activity drops. The idea of bringing a 6 month period for new admins to where they'd need to be active for "x" amount of hours or days per week or month.

This will prevent those who join our community just for the admin rank, then as soon as they receive it. They turn into a ghost and you will only see them every so often. Of course it won't be set in stone. If something comes up with the admin in "grace period" and he won't be able to fulfill the required activity he/she due to IRL issues then their rank could be put on hold until further notice.

I'm not saying the admin NEEDS to be on 24/7 but to the point where the CA+ can watch how they use their powers. This will not only help with activity of the admin in "grace period" but also determine if they truly deserve that position.

Once the admin is out of their grace period they will be free to visit the servers on or off, there won't be a required amount of hours/days they will need to play on the servers.

Admins becoming inactive after getting rank is most definitely an issue but I would rather give them incentive to play rather than punish them for not.

All of the staff are providing free labor to SG to help the community so setting specific time values and such would be a spit in the face.

This has been proposed before and we've found that it doesn't really help the quality of admin. We monitor all admin levels and if we find their activity lacking we make sure they either get on the boat or step down. We probably review all admins at all levels probably once every 2 to 3 months. We don't force admins to play any specific type of server or require them to fill a quota of time. The role of admin is a purely volunteer position as is all roles filled here.

My suggestion here is that you become friends with more admins and steam message them when issues come up, use the shoutbox, and if that all fails, record a demo and file a player complaint. Player complaints probably fill close to 75% of our bans. As far as your claim that people join the community to obtain the rank of admin, then they must not have much of a life cause I can tell you, I can think of a lot better things to get in life.

Just throwing in my opinion, this is a job that we are not payed to do - we volunteer. All of us have lives outside of SG if you can believe it... I would like to think that most of us our trying are best, and if you see us inactive there is a reason for it. I also don't think anyone who is chosen for admin is so un-trusted / misjudged that they need to be watched 24/7 either. This is what admin complaints are for, if you notice someone abusing report it. Players have responsibility too you know.

Now when an issue arises I do indeed message one of the many admins I have added on steam.

I may have went overboard with a member just joining the community for admin rank.

This was more so for the newer admins that receive their rank but soon after tend to be a lot less active on the servers. I understand this is a volunteering job but I do agree with what @All Ts mentioned to give more of an incentive to play on servers such as JB for example which rarely has admins on.

I don't think you went overboard at all. Call me a cynic or an asshole but I definitely think some people join with specifically getting admin in mind. (not saying all of those people necessarily get admin, most of them don't)

So many people join the forums and attempt to "integrate" themselves into the community by spamming & regurgitating other peoples posts. These same people are the ones who you see unhelpfully spamming "type !faq !rules" binds, making useless player complaints on people for petty reasons, and overall REALLY trying to make themselves seem admin-like.

Another prime example is the people who make their admin applications, get rejected, then go inactive for a long while afterwards.

I'm sure Four understands that there are alternatives besides having admins online (player complaints, cb, steam etc..) but, as a PB player where our server has a severe lack of staffing even when 25+ people are online I completely agree with him that we should be looking into at the VERY LEAST adding more incentive for admins to logon and help out.

And honestly, that is how PB has always been. No one who likes playing PB likes to also admin PB. Hell you couldn't pay me to admin that server. There is a reason why most of us old people call PB cancer cause it is. People who tend to do the admining in PB have to run the tight rope of maintaining order and not over reaching their authority. I would say a good chunk of server related admin strikes come from admins over extending their authority in PB. Which makes it hard for a lot of new admins to do.

Ideally, the players should be able to police themselves but this is the internet and everyone turns into a tool. It would be so much nicer if people would just play nicely.

Any incentive we give admins wouldn't be fair and would have to be extended to all servers. Adding another raffle really isn't the solution as we want to save those things for everyone else and not a selected 40 or so of us.

I disagree with the assumption of how the admin team in the past and present feels/felt about Prison Break. I know for a fact that in the past FAR more admins played Prison Break than now and I don't believe that maintaining ratio & acting on incidents that you see is particularly difficult. I understand what you're saying about people over extending authority because personally I have seen admins be very quick to ban some of the rude-ish PB players. (personally I think that it comes more down to a fault in the admin than the server)

I wasn't saying add an incentive to just PB alone but considering far more admins play TTT than PB I could almost make the case that if every admin thinks PB is so "cancer" that adding an incentive to it alone for admins wouldn't be a terrible thing to do.

In my mind the lack of admins has way less to do with disliking/liking administrating it and way more to do with them just flat out not liking the server.

Anyway regardless of the reasons why there aren't admins online (its a useless & quite frankly a petty argument) adding some kind of incentive to help one of our most popular servers & reward admins does not sound like a bad idea to me at all.

i have to agree here tbh, while i get that being an admin in jb is cancer and dificult, just giving up on the server is kinda shitty for the playerbase. its not to say that everyone has bc there are a few admins who still frequent jb, it feels like a majority just dont care about the server and it can make playing on it feel like shit for the playerbase. i dont think adding a jb specific incentive is a horrible idea, atm it is the worst server and something needs to happen with it. everytime ive looked at the playerlist for ttt or joined the server ive seen atleast one admin on and generally i see more, and thats not something i can say about jb. there are admins i see on there all the time and i mentioned them in my last post about this problem. i really think something should be put in place to change that.
