If the video is lagging you'll have to balance resolution and bit rate to make it smoother. I scale down my video output to almost half what my display is and use the bicubic downscale filter and limit the frame rate to 30 fps. This makes my videos probably the equivalent to 720p. Not full HD but its viewable via youtube players. Not really full screen good, but most people wouldn't watch those videos in full screen anyway. Link to comment

It's worth trying what Spiked said if you're really intent on recording videos though. Link to comment
