For the past couple of months I have been listening more carefully on what people say. I've heard racism, joking about RAPE, how women are ''tools'' (which they aren't), but joking about rape is worse than some types of racism in my opinion. Rape should not be talked about in VOICE or GAME chat. Saying ''Im going to rape your mother'' or dad, is just flat out wrong. I know some people like to joke about it, but that wouldn't be a straight out ban, It'd just be a warning if the other feels a bit uncomfortable.. I know this one person in perticular who says ''IM GONNA RAPE YOUR MOM IN THE ASS" on SG, I can't stand when [insert Player name here] jokes about rape, and I would like it to be a bannable offense and so would SOME others.

 

I didn't know if this was the right Section to post in but I did it anyways so move it if needed.

 

What's you opinion on joking about rape?

Generally, it's a bad idea to ban people over a joke (for obvious reasons), however if it gets to the point where it becomes valid player harassment, it becomes an entirely different situation. When someone says all men are rapists or women should go the kitchen, I think it's a given said player doesn't actually believe what they're saying 99% of the time. While a "joke" may be in poor taste or overtly stupid, we shouldn't become the PC Police because someone wants to get offended too easily UNLESS they start to break our rules already in place, such as player harrassment for example

FLuiD pretty much hits it on the head for me. Constantly going after someone with inappropriate jokes is one thing, but just banning someone because what they say could cause offense is getting kinda to being really anal about political correctness. I'm not saying these jokes are appropriate, but maybe more along the lines of warranting a warning if the recipient feels attacked.

I get these jokes all the time. Although sometimes they can get messed up, I agree with Fluid in that it's not the best idea to ban a certain word or concept per se. The internet isn't a politically correct place and I don't think we should be able to control what people can and can't say to that extent on the servers. I get that joking about rape isn't right, and I'm not trying to belittle it, but if we were going to ban people for saying fucked up jokes we probably wouldn't have anyone on our servers anymore.

If anything it would be related to player harassment; if the jokes get to a certain extent to where the person is bothered by it or if it gets excessive in nature, then something should be done.

Pretty sure there isn't a whole lot left to say here, I think it's clear that we aren't going to start censoring our players for everything people find offensive but that if people are getting out of hand it ties into our current rules.
