Can we remove these polls on map suggestions and removals? They're useless, they don't provide anything to the managers and it's pretty much the equivalent of having a poll on admin applications. These polls shouldn't be used to decide on additions/removals so there's no point in having them. People should state their opinions in the thread, with valid reasoning.

I mean, I don’t really see the problem with having them. This seems more like a nitpicking type of thread/request as having these does no harm. I’ve never been a manager and you have but I assume (given enough people vote) it can possibly give you a general idea of where the community stands without each person having to take the time of writing out a post.

There can absolutely be harm done if the managers use these polls as a reason to keep or remove a map. If a map is not making the server do well I wouldn't want a bunch of people who like the map voting no for removal then the managers thinking they should keep it. Writing out a post is necessary so we can see points on each side and not "this person wants it to stay, but these people want it removed". It may not seem like a big deal, but the map selection is what makes or breaks a server's success and it's pretty important that you flesh out the map pool very well. Letting managers potentially get the wrong idea from these polls does not help with that.

I think it's been used as an excuse to remove maps and add maps by managers in the past when they shouldn't and still up until recently. It would be as if everyone voted for an admin candidate then one person who votes against them with clear almost non-arguable information of them being toxic, irrational, and overall a bad candidate for admin- yet the BD's decide to approve them due to strict vote. I don't know if this is reason enough to remove the vote, but I also don't know if I agree with the comparison of admin applications to map suggestions.

With admin applications I think they are way more polarized, prone to bias, and seeing how others are voting would come with more skewed popular opinion. If you disagree with someone on a map not being added the likelihood they're going to get into a squabble over opinion with you is relatively low compared to how something like admin applications effect the community and how they are prone to conflict & personal feelings become passionate. Both are subjective, but you have to gauge the level of impact, abuse, usefulness and accuracy. I would say based on prior experience my view is that there are threads where it doesn't work at all as a good indicator but the majority of threads I've seen it work fine.

I see where you guys are coming from, but I blame that on the manager and their incompetence to not look further into the issue. This wouldn’t stop bad managers from being bad, but it might take away useful statistics that any manager could use to get a general idea on where a map stands.

Can we get a poll up to vote on this suggestion? ;)

But really....All Ts and Dominic are right that there have been bad decisions made based on vote, especially when an AO...or I guess managers now weren't as involved as they should be with the server population. That being said, Keiran has a good point that if someone is a poor manager they'll make poor decisions even if this was removed. I'd tend to agree with that line of reasoning a lot more, because if someone doesn't know how to track population based on maps or track overall popular vs non-popular maps, then without a forum vote they simply wouldn't have anything to go on.

@Dominic

You're an idiot. Rejected.

Ultimately, the poll is helpful and not helpful at times. In terms of this, Dominic wasn't at the best mental state of his life as his crush decided to go out with the douchebag instead of him. If you feel like a map removal request is being tainted by the poll, personally reach out to the CA or ATs to express your opinion.
