Modgers1 Posted October 12, 2008 Content Count: 2903 Joined: 02/01/08 Status: Offline Share Posted October 12, 2008 (edited) Well, Pentium D's just aren't what they used to be anymore, so I've decided to finally upgrade to an AMD Quad Core: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819103291 Here's the motherboard I plan on getting with it as well: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813128090 Just wanted to know what you guys think of these two items. I think they're great for the price, and the reviews are pretty decent. Let me know what you all think. :001_smile: -Modgers Edited October 12, 2008 by Modgers1 Link to comment

AppleShark Posted October 12, 2008 Content Count: 514 Joined: 12/08/07 Status: Offline Share Posted October 12, 2008 (edited) It's probably best to steer clear of AMD in favour of an Intel Core 2 at the moment, unless you're a serious fan boy. :001_tt2: Maybe something like this: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819115036 ? Or if you have your heart set on a quad-core, Subzero's recommendation is a good one for that price range. (Note the OEM version is $10 cheaper) Edited October 12, 2008 by AppleShark Link to comment
Astrum Posted October 12, 2008 Content Count: 1349 Joined: 05/09/08 Status: Offline Share Posted October 12, 2008 The AMD Phenom 9950 beats the C2Q Q6600 in the majority of benchmark tests. It's also a proper quad core if I remember correctly, unlike the C2Q which is two dual cores tacked together. The next iteration of the C2Q will obviously beat the 9950, but the price point will be higher. So as far as bang for the buck goes, the 9950 wins here. Link to comment

Zero001 Posted October 12, 2008 Content Count: 1230 Joined: 05/17/07 Status: Offline Share Posted October 12, 2008 I don't know if it's still the case, but the 780g has had trouble powering 125w chips. Any particular reason why you're going with a mATX board? I hope you're not planning on gaming with the integrated graphics. The 780g is the equivalent of an HD3450 and can even run crossfire with it, but by no means do they compare to even a modest $50 graphic card. Link to comment

PotshotPolka Posted October 12, 2008 Content Count: 6084 Joined: 03/31/08 Status: Offline Share Posted October 12, 2008 I just bought a Q9550 cpu and I'm happy with it, also look into ASUS mobos, there a bit pricey and cramped but they're not half bad. Link to comment
