  2. If all else fails steampowered.com sign up for a support account and ask them.
  3. Un-install steam and re-install it. Usually fixes most problems.

  7. Which part getting the permission to play the songs or the legal copies?
  8. Pretty much, the idea is, you sign up for a shift. You do what ever you want to do with that time. Being music, talk, sports. When it comes to scheduling, I plan to run off Zulu time which is also GMT time if I'm not mistaken. Pretty much once we find out how many people are interested we'll limit how many hours a person can sign up to do per-day so its more fair. But if someone doesn't sign up for shift then it would be fair game to whom ever wants it. We'd pretty much have schedules set maybe 3-5 days in advance maybe? Anything that is not scheduled for that day you can pick up. But what ever you do with your time is up to you, just remember you'd like to keep people listening as much as possible, otherwise you are just talking to yourself lol.
  9. We are currently working on hammering out the details of how this will work, for now what you guys can do for us is this: If you want to be a DJ on this, any music you plan to play on your shift, you have to get written permission from the record label or the artist (depending on who owns the copyright). The most effective way to do this is send e-mail to the label and let them know we are starting up an internet radio station and is building a play list and need their permission to play songs. Most likely they'd want to know what songs/artists you plan to air but if you are upfront with them they are most likely to agree. Once you have permission you have to own a LEGAL copy of the music. Either by CD or iTunes or something simular. No illegal downloading. Now that you have your music we'll need to keep a database of what songs we can use, so let us know what you've already got access to use. Indie atrists that do not have copyrights we do not need to have permission to use but its good form if we do. Next, build yourself a 1 hour playlist of how your show will work to be submitted and approved. The approval is just the cross check with the database of songs to make sure you do not play something we do not have the right to play. We'll need to know how many of you are willing to do this so we can make it available to everyone so we can set rules of signing up for air time. This whole process is alot of work but will be well worth it in the end. Once we get a good database started and relatons with labels it will be no work at all to get you on the air. If you have any questions about this please feel free to contact me and I'll answer them as quickly as I can.
  10. hmmm looks like the map might not be complete...i have no clue how to fix that one...that would be Astrum or a BD department. I notice this on a few maps but it doesn't constantly say that in console.
  11. From the research I've done, Shoutcast is the way to go. Its simple and easy to use. Scheduling can be worked out pretty simply. And thats a possibility but with 70+ people having some control into this might get a bit hairy but its something to consider once we get a good idea of how this all goes. With the copyright laws, from what we've now found out. We do not need to be licenced. But we do need permission from the copyright holders to broadcast, which is not a hard thing to do. You'd send an e-mail to the label and ask to broadcast such and such song on our server. We'd just need to keep a record of these permissions. I believe we'd have to be very detailed in the song and artist to be played. I also believe you have to phyiscally own the CD/album to play it. We can't just go downloading music from whereever (cause that technically is illegal). The good thing is that once we have a relationship with a label they'd send us singles or demos they'd want us to play to get air time. The big question that keeps coming up is cost. From what I have found out from wavestreaming.com we can get a streaming server that sends out 96k bit rate for 50 slots for under 90 bucks a month. Its a good bit rate to start at. If we become successful, we can extend our bit rates to having a low(dial up) server, a medium rate, and cd quality (high speed) server to make it available to everyone. So if we can find advertising for 90 bucks a month we can get started with the one server and if we become popular we can increase slot and the quality servers. This is all looking pretty much possible, so stay tuned.
  12. If you guys are really serious about doing something like this, its gonna take a bit to set up. First thing is we need to get some advertising done. This will generate the revenue we'd need to set up a server to run off of. It would need its own dedicated to use all the space needed for songs and audio files and bandwidth. Second, we need to work with record lables on securing the correct rights to air songs. It is illegal to broadcast copywrited music over public servers. This can be a challenge but usually when dealing with lables if you are up front with your intentions and we wouldn't be turning a profit so they'd most likely be willing to allow us to play music. This would be a significant amount of work but if the right people get serious about this, it can be pulled off. If you are serious about helping, let me know of what you are willing to do, ie. help find people to sell advertising space, write commercial spots, produce commercial spots, contact music labels to get rights or find ways to do so. Then we can start figuring out DJ's. The ground work must be laid out first otherwise this will never leave the ground.
  13. Congrats...welcome to the team. :-D

  14. I don't think its a server side issue, I haven't heard anymore complaints other than pauls. I'll double check it when I get home in about 5 hours but I'm pretty sure its ok.
  15. Thanks. You coming back?

  16. Sometimes its cause the fastdownloads is wrong, but I think by now we'd have a few more players complaining. Try restarting steam and see if taht works.
  17. Costs are usually nil cause there are ways to broadcast over the internet. The trouble is keeping it on the air 24/7. Pretty much needs to run through one computer to do so.
  18. I'll upload this one and another deathrun I found when I get off work. Unless someone ninja beats me to it :-P
  19. http://www.fpsbanana.com/maps/67676 This looks pretty cool. Makes me want to play some surf later today.
